Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I can't believe that any opposition is deliberately getting outplayed by us in the first 45 minutes of every game. Every game - loads of first half chances - second half of every game our performance runs out of gas and the cohesiveness goes. We're having to play players out of position. We're missing Alvarez as the support act striker to pop up with a goal, but he wanted to go.
Well maybe Pep needs to change the way we play when we have so many injuries. Why don’t we park the bus for a change at 1-0 up?

It was clear from 50 mins that a goal was coming. Why didn’t we just drop back 10 yards, add an extra player into midfield and defence at the cost of the by then completely ineffective wingers and just knock it around. Go down injured, take the heat out of the game. Why do our tactics never change even when down to the bare bones? We had 8 men up at one point at 1-0 up. Lose the ball there and we are in trouble. Why take the risk?

We don't practice parking the bus in training and our way of being cautious is to keep the ball in the opposing half. I have no problem with that. It's a miracle that games like recent ones don't happen more often than they do. The great pools financed Liverpool sides of the 70s and 80s used to have spells in mid-table. We're second after eleven games, fatigued and injury ravaged.
