Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Shit happens. We have been exceptional first half bar two breakes too many for Sporting. The other half is combination of injuries, 3 days between games fitness and generally shit period. Not worried. We gonna catch some breath, receive few players for rotation and come back strong after internationals. Wish we dont send anybody and just have some time for rest and preparation without hurry.

We should of in the summer lined up a back up for Rodri after the shambles of a transfer Phillips was, but now we are paying for it

Lost the best player in the world for the season. We’ve too many injured players which may be linked to players being burnt out after the last 5 seasons efforts.

We need to sign a couple of world class players and have a reset. We may improve over the season but it’s the end of an era.

Main thing this seadon is the witch hunt is concluded and the owners decide which manager should take us forward.

Perspective: We lose our first league game in 2024. We lost a league cup game that 99% of us would have written off given the injury situation, we lose a Champions League game in a new format that noone is used to that under the normal group stages we wouldn't have cared too much about.
It’s not really perspective when you look at the performances all season. That had been coming and I’m almost glad it happened as I hope it will be the catalyst for some change. Where is rodders doing his rehab? He needs to be at the CFA tomorrow

We’re in all kinds of trouble
Lewis, Akanji, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Bernardo, Savinho, Haaland all had an absolute shocker
I felt really sorry for Simpson-Pusey as he seem to be held out to dry by his fellow defenders

We’ll qualify for the knockout stages, but we’re nowhere near good enough to win it and I think in the Prem the best we can hope for is a top four finish
Not really hung out to dry but facing the reality of being a central defender for City and being expected to defend one on one in an high line and also be a ball player. Did his best and look like he’s got a bright future but tonight showed he’s not ready. Needs must though and it tells me that our injuries and fitness of many players are a lot worse than we might realise. Onwards and upwards. CTID

We might not have Rodri back until the middle of next season with his injury.

Feels like 16/17 all over again, pep has not been backed at all in the transfer window and it’s causing devastating consequences. People thought my criticism of the squad was hyperbole after the Bournemouth game, well unfortunately I’ve been proven correct.

The simple fact is despite having arguably the greatest manager of all time, our squad is so poor I do not believe we will get Top 4 this season unless we sign at least 2 players in the Jan transfer window.
Not backed? It's him that wants tiny squads. Who did he want we didn't go for?

It was clear we needed to replace walker kev and backup for rodri and haaland. We didn't do a single one and then sold alvarez
