Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

we meet Amorim in 6 weeks in the Manchester derby. I wasnt worried before, I am bit worried now. tactically he owned Pep here with a lot lesser squad.

3 losses in a row, says it all, and Brighton watching both this and the Bournemouth game to do just what they seen from them to hurt us. I guess we will go with Kova-Gundo duo, which will hurt us.

also worried now if we make top8 in CL. if this form doesnt improve we may finish 9-12th to do the extra playoff round. well cpoud be others not making top8 like Real, Atletico.

4 points or at least 3 points is needed from the PSG away and Juventus away games. wont be easy. miss winning vs Feyenoord or Brugge and its completely over in terms of top8.

Manchester City:

1- squad approximate cost : $1.33 Billion
2- Annual wage bill $270 million

Sporting Lisbon :

1- squad approximate cost : between $250-$300 Million
2- Annual wage bill- around $40 million

Lets hope the club will invest more wisely

Let's face it, it's OVER! In a very similar way to all dominant sides before, ours has aged and wilted. We have failed dramatically in our squad planning, and our best players have long gone sour.
KDB, Bernardo, Gundogan, Walker, and even Stones. Everyone of them is either passed it, or cannot play without getting injured.

Across the rest of those who play, there is simply no leadership, defending is an after thought, and the squad is devoid of pace or energy.

Yes there are some eye catchers like Doku and Savinho, but they flatter to deceive and their final product isn't great. Others like Foden and Gvardiol are clearly good players, but get caught up in the mediocrity that surrounds them.

Rico Lewis is not a David Silva replacement, and as much as I admire the energy shown by Nunes, he is a loose canon.

And then there is Haaland, logic cannot sensibly explain to me how any player can score so many goals, but actually be so shit at finishing chances.

All of the above however, are just the symptoms. The actual problem is the management. They have become stale and have failed to adapt the team in good time to avoid this decline.
Sadly it has now gone passed the tinkering stage, and I am not sure Guardiola has the energy or desire to strip this down and rebuild it, and as such I firmly believe he will depart after the World Club Cup next summer.

Former Coventry City striker scores a hatrick against City for Sporting Lisbon.

Perspective: We lose our first league game in 2024. We lost a league cup game that 99% of us would have written off given the injury situation, we lose a Champions League game in a new format that noone is used to that under the normal group stages we wouldn't have cared too much about.
That’s just repackaging ‘head in the sand’ as ‘perspective’. Look at the issues in the team, look at the recent transfer windows, we can’t just ignore these things. The results prior to our collapse have flattered us. We were lucky.

It’s clear as day what’s wrong. We have players in Kovacic and Rico who are simply nowhere near the level we need off the ball and Nunes and Savinho are going missing and flattering to deceive.

But the main thing is Kovacic and Rico. It’s not near our level.

We need a big week.
