Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

when we were at our defensive best in recent years, it was the 2022/2023 season. In those latter CL games we had a back line of Akanji, Dias, Stones, Ake, with Stones dropping into that midfield role.
We still have those players at the club, albeit hampered by injury.

If we can get everyone fit, it would be great to see a back line like that again imo. However, i'm sure Pep will have other ideas

same here, said this to my father before the Spurs cup game, lets get the CBs playing again like we did that season.

Was in the stands last night

Penalty Noted Shocking :0(

But if you don’t pass him the ball or play it through for him, you can’t expect much???

If you keep doing the same old thing slowly?

Ball out wide try to beat someone before going back inside, again and again and again and again!!

With no end product??!!

Then don’t expect anything to change!!??

If you want him to be more effective in these games?

Then feed him the ball more and play to his strengths :0)

He left the field yesterday after a little wave to the travelling fans and by himself!!

Unstandably, not happy, But then neither was I with the service he got all night :0(

Feed the Big Lad,he will score!! :0)

No Surprise with no KDB and others starting his chances have dried up!!

Not sure what the hell has gone wrong with the defence this season, but needs addressing ASAP.

Poor last few games, hopefully last night is a kick up the arse for everyone
Well we’ve lost key DM and the key defenders are injured

It sounded very much like Pep is staying after last nights interview and seems up for the challenge. If that’s the case and some players are beginning to question him, think they might be shipped out as part of the rebuild. I also think it will be for two years. I’m not sure I personally bought not wanting Amorim and playing styles. I do think he was on our radar. I think Pep is staying and there is no vacancy. Amorim wanted to stay until the end of the season and the rags said now or never. If Pep does commit to another two years, the club needs to support him. Let Pep have the money to rebuild a team that fits the next evolution of his tactics. We need to be ruthless and move on anyone who doesn’t want to be part of it, or are no longer required. We need positive hungry players. Pep was very clear last night he wants to return us to the top, and is not leaving us until that happens. I guess he means back to winning ways. I also think his ‘follow’ statement was aimed at some players and not just the fans. Maybe it’s all just wishful thinking on my part :)
2,500 City fans followed,last night

And I was one of them :0)

There was nothing, but support for the team last night throughout and after

No problems with the away support backing the team, whatever the result :0)

Didn't think it was that bad last night. Another night we'd have won fairly comfortably. We gave away a couple of stupid penalties and some poor finishing made the result look worse than the game was in reality.

Thought that was the best we looked going forwards in terms of creating chances for a while.

Now the dust is settling, my thoughts are that we played well, should have been 3 up at half time, but just don't keep the ball well enough without Rodri, so the inverted full back business is pants. Sporting weren't as good a team as Bournemouth either, we just made them look good. Hopefully we have a heart to heart talk like when Fernandinho was here and we get our arses back into gear.

Media wankfest over Amorim this morning is so over the top!

Thought Sporting was fairly average myself, City beat themselves last night.

Any half decent team would have beaten us last night. Nowt to do with him.

Had he not been joining the rags no **** would’ve been clamouring for him.

Let them have their first hard on for a decade.

That's the thing isn't it, Bournemouth done a number on us on Saturday and played a hell of a lot better than Sporting.

Sporting are a piss poor team in my opinion, That's not sour grapes on my behalf, I'd genuinely see them as a team finishing 3rd or 4th in the old group phased games. They are the equivalent of a 3rd 4th seeded team.

Hopefully tonight will inspire teams to have a go and we'll have less parked busses to deal with. In many ways a wake up call we needed, onwards and upwards.

We’ve seen what happens when opponents “have a go”…Bournemouth on Saturday for example & Fulham recently. At the moment, we don’t have the defensive nous to handle it.

Does my fucking head in.

I called him as complete and utter shit after his debut.

I genuinely cannot believe this many people can watch football and not be able to see when someone is gash.

Bit harsh. He was very good in the 1st half. Superb pass to Haaland who slashed it well wide. Penalty was stupid though. Not our worst player on the night by a long shot.

Nunes was the least of our problems tonight and for those making him out the scape goat needs to look at other players who play on a regular basis who were dog shite.

Spot on. The guy on the other side for example was abysmal, petulant & couldn’t get the ball past the first man

Team absolutely shellshocked after the start to the 2nd half. Got heads back quickly (just not the feet).
