Spurs’ new stadium

i'm pretty sure that there was an attendance restriction in place, weeks before this fixture, i remember reading that weeks ago. God knows why though.

Attendance restrictions on events at Wembley led to numerous empty seats at Tottenham's Premier League win over Cardiff on Saturday.
The top tier of Wembley was closed for the match, which Tottenham won 1-0, and 43,268 supporters were in attendance. The capacity of Wembley is 90,000, but Spurs insisted almost all available tickets were sold.

Spurs issued advice on September 4, which read: "Given the restriction on the number of events that can be staged at full capacity at Wembley Stadium, and with our game against Manchester City on October 29 and all three of our group stage Champions League matches planned at full capacity, supporters are advised that our game against Cardiff City on October 6 will be limited in capacity."

Spurs have hosted home games at Wembley and in Milton Keynes this term as they await the overdue completion of their White Hart Lane home.

Mauricio Pochettino was unaware of the restrictions, and speaking after the game said: "Me? yes. I was little bit surprised it was empty.
"But I understand that this is so difficult. We cannot ask for more from our fans. Of course it was a difficult day, the weather and everything, it's not easy.
"But yes, I am always honest and I was a bit surprised at the upper tier being empty."

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock added: "I didn't really notice, I was focusing on our fans.
"I don't think we could have brought any more so you can't blame us."

Funny how they weren't restricted last season though ?

Might be because they wasn’t suppose to be playing there for that game and Levy being a Cheap skate didnt want to pay extra to open up the other stands.
Yes, that makes sense, wembley stadium area these days is a very residential area, so I guess they might have relaxed it last season as it was their "home" ground, but not this as they were supposed to have their new home. That said it certainly wasn't full in the lower tier either, plenty of empty seats when I saw the highlights.

Wembley, like nearly everywhere else, has a Grass Master pitch, that AFAIK is resistant to divots.

All you get is scars on the surface, where the real grass comes off the top, which are mainly cosmetic.

The reason it looked like it did, after the boxing, is because it had been covered up, meaning the real grass part died. No light or water will do that pretty quickly.

It'll look a bit shit, but I reckon it'll be fine and almost as smooth as usual. It will not be like a ploughed field, that's almost impossible with these pitches.

When are they due to move in to WHL?

Just going back to that utd wimbledon game...i ve read a few times that it looked as thp there were under 18k there...season tics were automatically counted...not ununsual of course...but the 18k estimates were from utd fans who were there.
At the time I was working with a rag S/T holder and he also reckoned the actual attendance was closer to 17/18k.

  • Spurs hope to play their first match in their new home against Burnley in the Premier League on December 15

I agree - other than hte real Spurs locals, Wembley is pretty straightforward to get to (and much better for Cardiff fans, presumably).

60k in N17 is certainly going to be awkward to manage. I can see a lot of games starting late.
It will be a fucking nightmare. The Olympic stadium (shit bowl) was sold to us on the back of ‘first world transport links’ which was absolute bollocks. It’s shit. Even with central. Jubilee, dlr. overground and British rail it’s still shit.

Tottenham have one BR station and a tube at seven sisters a mile away.

Still at least they’ll have a stadium fit for football, and a cheese room which we all want in a stadium!!

Yes, I live close enough to know how awful it is likely to be. It was bad with 38k, so it'll be ludicrous now.

A cheese room??

Yes, as well as the longest bar in London (Slow hand clap) they have a cheese room. Why? God knows. It’s a 90 min game what’s wrong with a pukka pie and a bovril ffs. I’ve done corporate and hated it and the ****s that were in the box with me. A necessary evil in the game now. But cheese? Just give me a bit of cathedral cheddar and I’m golden

An opportunity to let the premier League know how much fans have been screwed over by this.

If you've been affected let this blue know

Just bought my ticket for this. This is the third match this year that has gone to my (10000) points level.
Am (pleasantly) very surprised by this as one of those was a German venue we have never been to before.
Any thoughts on why that is? Fatigue due to the number of matches we play?

Not sure it's one major factor as a few small ones that are slowly accumulating

Firstly, it means at least one extra day off work, which unlike the Watford game in December, has come as a complete surprise.

Secondly, after 30 years of pining for Wembley, it's simply become a repetitive, expensive chore. This will be my 13th experience since 2011, and it would have been 14 if London 2012 hadn't clashed with City-Chelsea.
We might even be returning before Christmas if we beat Fulham in the LC, and draw Tottenham Away.

However, I sense more than ever that the hardcore City away following is ageing, and starting to pick and choose.
No disgrace, but it's harder, and too expensive for the younger replacements to pick up the baton.
I also feel that it's creeping into other clubs as well

What a momentous occasion. The might of Burnley. Not quite Barcelona are they.

Odds on it won't be done anyway. Maybe ready for Scum second weekend in Jan?? Easier win than Burnley.
