They were the dirtiest team I had ever seen but it was a fantastic atmosphere and we should have scored moreI can't remember that 1-0 win you refer to in 1976 against Juventus.

They had a monster of a central defender! Think is name was Gentile. Anything but! They were the dirtiest team I had ever seen but it was a fantastic atmosphere and we should have scored more
Level with a minute to go and penalties looming? Same for Ederson (not to go in goal)Why was Haaland a sub in this game if he wasn't ever to be brought on even when losing with enough time left to equalise? ,what scenario would have ever seen him enter play ??
Purely for the fear factor, nothing else. Why was Haaland a sub in this game if he wasn't ever to be brought on even when losing with enough time left to equalise? ,what scenario would have ever seen him enter play ??
We won’t as we have away games against Juventus and PSG to come. Pep will go strong.I hope we don’t chuck the Sporting game as I’ve spent a small fortune going over there for 5 days.
I can normally tell after 5 minutes to be honest. Not always right of course. I remember Merlins first couple of touches that convinced me he would be a legend . Harsh comparison I know. I also saw one of Maradona's first games for Argentina and was stunned into silence within seconds again unfair comparison. The general rule for Pep I think is that a player has to be fairly special to get into the first team squad the Academy players who get chances like last night are normally not good enough to make that initial breakthrough. It doesn't mean they are not good players its just that the Pep quality bar is rather high, too high for most. It's quite amazing that we have fully qualified coaches on here that's badged up with all of their licences can tell after just 27 minutes of football that a certain player isn't good enough.
That's incredible.
That's what I mean, different perspectives and that's all good. If O'Reilly has been any Phillips in convinced most people would have slaughtered his performance and said same old/not good enough. Thought Simpson did nothing wrong apart from a wayward pass but can't say he did anything that could be described as class. Good luck to both of them though.Disagree about O'Reilly in particular. Yes he started poorly but was really good for an hour. Gundogan didn't help him, but when Kovacic came on it he looked solid. Simpson Pusey looks class.
That's why I'm surprised by a few saying we're in safe hands with the academy. I would love 4 or 5 to come through....but I've not seen anything from anybody to suggest the current crop will match the standard we need then to be at. Which is different to them making it as decent pros at decent teams, which I think they will. It's a very high bar to make it at City currently.
Realistically you are looking at 1 player making it every few years.
