Spurs (A) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Just wrote on motm thread about his performance and I agree he needs to work for the team but after pep’s hair dryer he had a huge impact . Pep appreciated his effort and gave him hi five . Bobb didn’t try to take porro 1on1 but when doku came on , gave porro a nightmare .
I noticed a tactical tweak where Bobb went into Central Midfield, with Foden up front with Julian, & Gvardiol providing the width.

We rotate quite often, so sometimes players gravitate to other positions as part of that, but that tweak remained the same from the end of the half, until Bobb was subbed. This shone a spotlight on Gvardiol.

Question: If we'd bought Gvardiol as a specialist left back, would you be happy with his effectiveness there?

He's replaced Ederson previously & slotted in seamlessly. He had one of those days against Newcastle, which was probably his worst performance for us.

Conversely he was superb last night & his distribution was on point.
Newcastle are very good at pressing, hence his troubles up there.

Spurs tried to match that and weren‘t quite as effective, meaning Ortega could pick the right pass better.

Really pleased we broke the curse , var tried to rule out every goal and tierney was a **** as usual but thanks nathan for the goal
I still don’t think bobbs goal was off side . From the first angle it looked like spuds player’s hand kept him on but the lines was drawn from another perspective and focused on his toe.

Yes I would. Tidy with rhe ball and solid in tackle

To be honest, there was one pass (amongst others) where he wasn't being pressured but booted the ball to a Newcastle player in a threatening position.

Ortega's not at Ederson's level with his feet, but he's usually not too far off. I've put his Newcastle performance down to a one-off bad day of the office.

I was thinking the same when first seen he was on side and my son phone me and said the same

Jasko is still a mystery for me. i still don’t know his strength and weakness but I’m willing to give him time to settle in .
I said on match day thread during half time that he needs to release the ball to bobb quicker

You get a feeling in the first 5 or 10 mins how it’s going pan out, last night the minute we put that press into effect especially Bobb Phil and Bernado with both full backs pushing up and maintained that level of energy and what must be a drilled method whereby we seam to cover nearly every out ball and angle then no one can compete with us

He's evidently a very good defender & is pretty accomplished with the ball at his feet, but I still think Left Back is a position I'd prefer a specialist player at.

We bought Gomez as a converted midfielder to fulfil that role. Reports suggest there's firm interest in him this window & he wanted to explore a move whether on loan or permanently, but Pep persuaded him to remain.

Does Pep see Sergio as a long-term solution to our LB conundrum? He's another player (like Philips) where it's painful seeing him sat on the bench getting splinters in his arse, game after game.

Great performance overall, with just the wasted chances the only negative.

Although we commited NINETEEN fouls apparently.....probably all "tactical".

Spurs were never in it in a footballing sense, although that curse at their ground was still a possibility until Ake came good.

Watched on itv, fck me that commentator hates us though and tried contiuously to get mccoist against us too.

A few gooduns were..........

Pleading for "hands", as the ball came off Diaz chest!!!

Exclaiming that Rodri "went in with his head" after an innocent clash, the replay showed Rodders pulled out.

Laughing at our 100 attempts there with no goal.......two mins later we scored lol.

Pleading for the goal to be wiped, using our dissalowed goal v dippers as "a precedent".

Finally, claiming that spurs need "just one chance"(after 93 minutes) to equalise, the ball never left their corner flag after he said it lol.

The fact we won makes the above tolerable and funny.

Would be great to win it again this season, especially playing the dippers in the final........stressful though.

not sure if the goal would have counted ouside the uk (CL for instance)...normally the refs are way more favourable towards the GK in the six yard box if there is contact (outside is fair game)...if someone attacked our GK the same way i would say it`s a foul
Don't think anyone attacked him.
Ball was coming in towards the City player who stood his ground ready to challenge for it.
Keeper had to get round or through him in order to contest the ball and didn't do very well.

I like to leave the attacking to the wingers but I do recognise that full backs are expected to do a lot more these days
In the past we've had full backs providing the overlap, but the two times Gvardiol was in those attacking positions, he ballooned the ball out of play.

I can't recall any significant danger he's caused in the final third. Even Kyle's been more effective in this sense, & I wouldn't class him as an attacking RB.

Do we still need to be fitting square pegs in round holes at this stage of City's development?

I agree , it was tight but they look to chalk goals off rather than give the attacker the benefit of the doubt , sad the game has come to this really and our goals seem to be varred to death whilst the red teams get checked in ten secs despite how tight they are
