Like I said, the issue was the ref giving the handball in the first place, unless he had some great view that VAR didn’t. It didn’t look to me like he did.

It was the safest way to disallow the goal, since he could not be proven wrong, that's why. He wanted to disallow it if there was any way possible.

If it was not a goal then it should have been a penalty. The Spurs player hand balled it.

Unless Haaland handled it first. Don't think he did though.
Do we still have the ridiculous idea that any handball by an attacker is penalised, but handball by a defender isn't always penalised?

I dont think we dropped off per se, they massively upped their press and we didnt react well enough. It wasn't a personnel/tactical thing, it was more a group of inexperienced players not reacting.

It wasn’t mate, it was a lack of conditioning and resulting lack of authority.

that was the ref’s fault… how can he bloody see a handball in that?

That’s sent up as a disallowed goal so VAR has to find conclusive evidence that there was no handball, which there wasn’t any.

The ref should not have disallowed the goal, then VAR just has to find conclusive evidence that there was a handball, which there wasn’t so the goal would have stood.

It's a fucking terrible call. He made no decision on the pitch and didn't blow the whistle while the ball was in play. Therefore he should be going to VAR and asking should I disallow this goal. Absolute bullshit

Great post and shows why VAR is fucked as it is. That was a perfect situation where VAR could be awesome. The ref gives the goal and then asks VAR is there any reason why it isn't (a la rugby league). A VAR system like that becomes a tool for the refs to make better decisions
