Spurs (A) - Post-Match Thread

So the morning after the night before!
ok so we all like having a go at being Ron Manager and I am no better or worse at it than anyone else, is it wrong players or square pegs in round holes? Ok so my man in the pub take on it, have players suddenly become shit? No, some fatigue maybe, do opponents know how to spoil against us, yes. BUT, the one thing that stood out like something that stands out, was the number of times the players were literally on their heels, looking at each other, balls played in behind without anyone making the run, I couldn’t actually work out where players should be playing, they looked very disorganised. Have they now reached Pep burn out? Coached and coached until they don‘t know if they’re coming or going? Things can turn around quickly and I expect we will win a lot of games. I just hope if this is a season of transition we don’t just throw in the towel.

It takes two teams to make a football match , for 90% of this game it was attack v defence and it always is against Spurs , Mourinho is not a master , he is a boring anti football f*cker who simply plays for the result. For all the bullshit around Tottingham they will win nothing because Mourinho's style of football is outdated he is a dinosaur . past it and no one wants to see his style of football apart from two faced Spuds fans who originally didnt want him at their club.

We are going through a spell were we cant buy a goal , our strikers are profligate and our midfield lacking creativity , ,our wingers are predictable every team knows they will cut inside , Pep needs to get our wingers playing as wingers , Mahrez.Torres,Sterling even Bernardo and Foden are all capable of skinning full backs and getting to the by-line and creating real chances for Jesus and Aguero. We need a plan B , because teams have worked us out.
Agree now that pep has got a contract extension he better figure this out. Use this season as a transition and get us to top 4. Lot of players need to be sold and we need pace and energy

Pep never has a Plan B. I don't earn 8 figures a year but even I could see we were impotent with the ball and our press was non-existent so when Spurs did get it they had acres of space and attacked with speed and purpose. Pep got it wrong and not for the first time in this type of game. As I said he never seems to learn. I wasn't thrilled we gave him another 2 years as I am not sure he can do much more. He's reached his limit with us and we need fresh ideas on the pitch. Top 4 is going to be a huge challenge this year and it's one we could easily fail looking at our current performances.

Even though it is happening time & again, and I keep seeing it with my own eyes, and even after all the discussions on here about Pep's tactics etc ... I'm still not really sure how we keep losing (or drawing) games like this:

Spurs - City yesterday:

Possession: 34-66%
Shots: 4-22
Corners: 0-10
Goals: 2-0

Spurs go top of the league with an "impressive display" and pundits say they could be Champions this year if they keep playing like that.

Ye Spurs weren't even that good they just defended well, like many teams worse than them have done before. The way they played them up was as tho they absolutely battered us, they didn't the had 2 chances and were clinical enough to take them with the help of some shit defending on our behalf.

At this rate we won’t make top half. The match v Spurs was just poor. Of course we can keep possession as the opposition don’t want it. They are quite happy to let us pass the ball to each other knowing that we have no end product. They just wait till we are all upfield with our back four high up and then pass/punt the ball through the back four, Edison comes way off his line and bingo the ball is in the back of the net. Simples !!
We have needed a plan B for the past 4 years (well we do have a plan B, it is Plan A). We need a “general” in mid field who is fast, strong in the tackle and who can motivate his team mates and we need someone who can and will shoot accurately from distance.
Apart from the above we are okay!
Nail on the head. Tempo has gone from our game of two years ago. Passing was fast and slick even against the parked bus. Always good for 4 or 5 at West Ham no chance now. Fernandinho was the key got us from A to B so much quicker. Always used to count to 5 when we lost the ball and we would have it back by then. Come on City and Pep.

It’s rinse and repeat and Pep falls for it every time .
We play two in the holding midfield for this season and we look solid and gives us a base to move on with .
In a game yesterday that probably needed it , pep changes the two holding mids and with in 5 minutes were undone.
Our crosses into the box are woeful and the team is unbalanced .
Right back at left back
Left foot on right wing
Right foot on left wing we cannot go on the out side line we used to .
Spurs were near the top and at home so why is it always City who go chasing the game to fall straight into their game plan ?
This been going on for months it’s screaming for a Dzeko , Lukaku , Haarland type striker and balls getting whipped in faster to cause more havoc . It’s all pass pass pass and it don’t hurt the opposition .
Foden speeds us up and is direct presses well with Jesus along with Torres would be my front 3 and freshen it up and get others in their toes they having it all to easy and so is Pep .

If Foden turned in the performances these two do, we wouldn't see him for months!

I disagree regards the keeper - he had very little cover so needed to close the players down. Perhaps he could have done it better but I think he's the least of our problems
Could have done better...that's Ederson's resume of the season so far. He's there to make it as difficult as possible for the opponent to put the ball past him. He was beaten by two fairly routine finishes yesterday. Prime Hart was brilliant in one on ones and I expect the same standard of any City goalkeeper (and no, I don't want Hart back).
