Our number 8. Not sure why Mr Ake was given it by ITV. Great shift be everybody.
Couple of reasons, he was rock solid throughout, and scored the only goal (which is often a shoo-in for lazy commentators), however you'll see a lot on here agree with the choice

He's also looking after Mr Gvardiol a lot of the time too and doing it well and without fuss

Incredible performance by Ortega. Gone a bit unnoticed, but hes clearance after Werner/Johnson combination was absolutely crucial and top notch. He had more work than statistics shows. Plus FLAWLESS match with the ball at his feet. A bit surprised hes not MOTM, even more so Mateo had over 50% votes. What Ake has to do to get MOTM? Man is the wall at the back, got winning goal, excercised fluid passing. I dont get it.

By own admission I have agenda against Kovacic at this point, but I cant just understand it like at all. He was good, but breaking lines is not neccessarly a holy grail of a football game. Its alternative is a good or great pass. Kovacic had like 4 shots blocked. All such actions might be seen as a mistake (yeah, often its question of being unlucky etc).

Ortega and Ake had MOTM displays, not Kovacic.

What Ake does, game after game is produce a rock solid defensive performance without fuss and without mistakes. He does this in such a quiet efficient manner he often goes under the radar, so doesn't get the MoM votes that diving in to block a shot or a last ditch tackle might get for a defender, simply because his positioning and general reading of the game means he doesn't have to do that very often.

I've been saying since he was a Bournemouth player that Ake is amongst the top 3 defenders in the premier league, in the last 12 months I've revised that to the best out and out defender in the premier league

Also if anybody's noticed, but Ake actually had crazy "last ditch" tackle but at the other end, at Spurs half of the pitch when he was on the ground and still fought for the ball putting head among Spurs players feet. Has anyone noticed this moment and could tell when it exactly happened?

Ok, I actually found it. 10:26 of the game.

I encourage to check it out, because was great and he actually recovers the possesion for us with this great dedicated tackle!
