Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Pep doesn’t trust him because he loses the ball too much. Does a few things great, but then doesn’t release the ball, loses it and the opposition is off to the races with us committed forward.
We constantly give the ball away as it is these days and from players that we don't normally expect the likes of Bernie in particular. The fact of the matter is that O'Reilly can do no worse than what we already have been doing.

I thought he had a cracking second half against Spurs away in the cup he showed real promise and he's a tough nut to knock off the ball, Bernie, Rico and Gundo has to be one of the lightest midfields we've seen in a long time.

Was once said that 1 man did not make a team think that adage has been well and truly trashed.
Two men - we survived with Kovacic for a while then we got Central defensive injuries and our opponents worked out that pressing Lewis paid dividends and now Kovacic is injured.
Of course it doesn't help that Pep always tries to attack and won't defend deep and hit on the break. I'm not complaining mind - 6 titles in 7 years says he's right but in adversity (with 4 injuries to the core of the team taking it's toll) sometimes even Pep has to be pragmatic.

We are experiencing what Liverpool went through when they missed out on top 4. Too many againg players in the midfield and the squad hasn't been refreshed enough.

I'm not talking go and buy 8 players like Chelsea does but this team need a 2 or 3 midfielders around the age of 26 and back up to Rodri. There is a reason why Pool struggled so hard after Fabinho left them and they had to change their playstyle cause they haven't replaced him yet.

Maybe we went light in the transfer window because the situation with Pep was uncertain.

Maybe Pep played a lightweight midfield as he is prioritising Tuesday.

Things I’ve been wondering…

Time will tell, but it’s November and there is a lot that can and will happen before the season gets to its climax.

Liverpool will slump. We will snap out of it and do what we have done time and time again and go on a winning streak.
i admire your faith but Pep's strategy pretty much hangs on having an effective defensive midfielder and with Rodri crocked I just cannot see who can step into that role. If Stones could stay fit he would be my pick but if he plays 50% of the remaining games I will be surprised. We could buy someone in January but it is a big ask for anyone to hit the ground running - Rodri certainly didn't.

I was pretty disappointed at how the game went seeing as Pep and team had two weeks to prepare for it. When the games start coming thick and fast there will be limited scope for trying new things. I am confident that things will improve but now regard success as a top 4 place and a decent run in the cups. I hope that you are telling me to eat my words come the end of the season.
