Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

If we are being realistic, Liverpool will probably win tomorrow and they will probably beat us next week. If that happens we’ll be 11 points behind them. We are not coming from eleven points back to overtake them.

This is the year we need to rebuild.
The problem is that while we could conceivably win the league from being eleven points adrift there is absolutely nothing in our displays this season so far to indicate we are capable of it.
We've shown some spirit with last minute goals against Arsenal and Wolves, but we can't keep a clean sheet and have struggled against too many sides. Southampton are bottom with four points from eleven yet people on here were bigging them up after we only beat them 1-0. You can't fix a problem if you don't believe it exists.
CL and FA Cup double will do for me.

I'm not as pissed off as I probably should be. Yeah, we're fucking shite at the moment, but coming off the back of 4 in a row it was bound to happen. We were pretty shit for a lot of last season to be honest and the champion mindset won it for us - as we've aged that's lost it's edge

Football has changed a bit too, and we need to figure out how to counter ourselves

Can’t blame injuries on that display
Eddie couldn’t keep the weans out of the close as my grannie would say
Walker head and legs gone
Gundo legs gone
Bernie something’s gone
Stones, he’s behind you, panto defending
Ickle Phil, confidence gone
Pep a tactical car crash since the bin fire that was the FA cup final
Rico has been the one shining light this season but he was pissing into the wind today

Just watched MOTD so called highlights for a recap after being there today. What the highlights did show was inept defending and Haaland wasting chances.
What the live match showed though was something a whole lot more concerning.
No leaders
No game control
Midfield getting walked through
Useless press
No pattern of play
Every man back on corners?
Rico out of his depth
Walker finished
Bernado Finished
Stones Finished
Gundogan Finished
Savinho not good enough (ditto Doku)
Haaland missing chances and the ONLY threat
Awful subs (3 should have been on at HT)
Foden?
Peps insistence to play the same brand with a team that can’t anymore
Youth kicking their heals on the bench (couldn’t do worse)
If ever we should have been up for a game, it was today with Peps extension, Rodri Balon Dor and players well rested.
Absolute mess
Really can’t see how this changes around with the players we have.
What is Pep's role in this collapse? And let's make no mistake we're in the midst of a collapse and at this rate will fall out of the top 4. What are we to make of the way the squad responded on the heels of Pep extending? If you're a younger player with legs to offer like Nunes or McAtee how do you feel about watching washed up players like Walker and Gundo putting on an absolute shit show? Pep is doing less with less. Who is responsible for the makeup of this underwhelming squad? Injuries to Rodri, KDB and such are no doubt critical but this squad is woefully below the standard City have been known for.
Oh well, we'll find out in January if we intend to make a serious run at the CL. The Prem this season is now about finishing in the top 4...

This form has been creeping up on us since the middle of last season.
We’re paying the price for 6 or 7 years of high quality, high intensity football.
Players are breaking down physically and mentally and, no amount of recuperation, sport science and magic can help at present with all our injuries to key players or positions.
KDB was blowing out of his arse at half time, most of last season.
Other aging players are struggling and, younger less experienced players are finding it tough.
Add to that the large number of injuries presently, necessitating player playing out of position, whilst not fully fit and, being out of form, is clearly hitting us hard.
Heads went today after they got their first two goals and, we can’t create enough clear chances, or take them when on a plate.
I hope I’m wrong, but this is likely to be a fallow season, maybe make top four.
Pep’s new contract will see him build again in the next two windows, adding the new young Brazilian striker in January and move the older players in, bringing in replacements and additions.
He will learn a lot from this period about his squad.
Maybe the replacement manager won’t be considered available or ready for two years, I’d put a bet on Chelsea’s manager, or Kompany, if he keeps Bayern at the top of their game.

existential crisis…

Pep plays a certain way.

Players can’t or won’t due to age/injuries/fatigue.

The boss will prevail but until then it’s going to be a really difficult watch.

Two worlds colliding. The players either need to show they are still capable to play in a pep system or pep needs to adapt to the players shortcomings.

Baldy won’t and has unprecedented successful history using his methods. A tweak might be the compromise. 5 at the back? Use Jack in the middle?

Either way he needs to stop flooding midfield with slow players. Decide to press properly or not at all.

6 EPL titles in the last 7 season and you guys are complaining the players are dog whites and the club is mismanaging and Pep’s time at the club is up? You are worse than the worst Arsenal fans in terms of supporting the team.
