Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Depressing. I remember losing 4-0 at home to Wimbledon in KK's first season but then we played Horlock as DM and stormed to promotion. Then in Pep's first season we got thumped 4-0 at Goodison and didn't lose away again all season. Pep found a solution to opposition counters but this doesn't feel anything like that. Our display AT Spurs wasn't bad and at Brighton it was quite encouraging, but today was the worst I have seen for a long, long time.

Some players are out of form but it is hard to see how the ball can be given away so many times even allowing for that. Unfortunately some great players seem to have reached the end of the road and we are really struggling because other key players have been unavailable for much of the season. We don't need to think too hard to identify our injured lads and hopefully they'll be back to full match business before long, but a rebuilding in January and the summer seems unavoidable. But we may not be allowed to delay. So from waiting for the international break for the injuries to heal I am now pinning my hopes on the transfer window in January - unless the answer is yet another flash of Pep's genius.

PS I do remember the 5-2 loss at home to Leicester in 2020, but that was clearly due to our very short pre-season and the resulting inability to stay the pace.

Well that was fucking dreadful, again.

No passion, we’re slow, we’re soft, we’re embarrassingly predictable and we have absolutely no leadership on the pitch. They should hang their heads in shame today. It’s football, we can and will get beat, but turning out performances like that when they’re supposed to be at the top of the game is unacceptable.

The players are not doing the simple things well. To quote Mr Delph, “it’s the basics of football”.

With that, Pep’s stubbornness and insistence to play one way only is killing us. We look clueless at the back, we look clueless in attack. How many times to we have grass in front of us and rather than drive into it we stop, turn backwards or inside and let our opponents reorganise. Why do we keep buying wingers and make them hold the ball out wide until the fullback arrives and then play backwards and into the middle?

Our recruitment over the past few windows has been absolutely awful.

Time to change things up, Pep.

Sadly we’ve become the net spend champions as well as the English Champions. Over £100mill+ transfer money burning a hole in the City bank account unspent.
Keep an old first team but make money/sell off our future players from the academy.
Thus showing the footballing world how well we are doing business wise.

Football is a RESULTS business

As Pep has been unable to solve the Rodri sized hole in the middle of the pitch, we need to dispense with the attacking wingers and flood the pitch with midfielders who can retain possession and defend when we don't have the ball.

Bernardo and Grealish wide.

The three between them Foden, and then I'm stuck. Maybe we have to play Savinho and Doku to allow Bernardo to play inside. But that's not working. Frankly it's a mess.

I can’t really say I am too shocked….a repeat of the last four matches….a bright start then capitulation.

The unbeaten start to the season only masked what we are seeing now.

Totally agreed with Gundo coming back, but it’s been a disaster so far.

From where I was sat, for the third goal Gundo and Foden both pulled out of tackles….both are or were wonderful players when things are going well but we currently have too many players who cannot compete physically.

I think Rico is a great talent but a midfield of Gundo, Rico, Savio, Foden and Bernardo would struggle against most premiership teams.

Goals really do make a difference and if Haaland had put his chances away before Spurs scored who knows…..however we scored first against Lisbon and Brighton.

A big rebuild job ahead…..maybe the uncertainty over Pep didn’t help in the Summer, but we have obviously took our eye off the ball and not been ruthless enough when it comes to replacing some of the big names.

I really think we have a fight on our hands to be playing Champions league next season.
I think even if we svmcired early we do not have the right defensive personal to stop modern fast teams.. sours are strong and quick. Shows us up for wharmt we are now

It’s always darkest just before dawn.

It’s all I have at the moment.

We missed loads of chances, but we’re so brittle at the moment.

We need an injection of confidence.
