Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

He is now 20 not a kid he’s played 100 games for us and he’s about to get a 5 year deal I think we will call him the fuck out if we like

Wasn't just talking about him but you just zeroed in on it didn't you.

Not sure you were there or if you were you have already decided on him, but on EVERY corner Rico was going mental at the rest of the side that he was LEFT ON HIS OWN prone for a counter attack.

The whole tactical and team dynamic is off ATM and this is exactly what I mean. I name no names and yet you lot can't fucking help yourself when I was sitting behind the goal watching Rico Lewis having a go at SENIOR players for dawdling up to corners leaving us completely exposed.

Yeah, he wasn't great today but let me list the players worse who you didn't mention;

Cherki
Reinders
Dias
Marmoush

That's what I mean you Mellon. Thanks for proving my point.

Spurs looked like a well drilled, organised team that knew what they wanted to do and did it. Hats off to them, can’t stand them but can’t deny they played well. Frank is a great coach.

We looked like a team with a bunch of players that had barely ever played together before, which in all honesty we were and are. No control, fluidity or anything tbh.

We’ll improve definitely it’s still way too early to judge us yet, but that was pretty woeful today. I think the days of us dominating teams and games consistently is done for the foreseeable though. Think we as fans need to temper our expectations for now

First half was frustrating, Spurs looked sharp and dangerous but Marmoush and Haaland didn’t take the opportunities that came their way. If we’d scored first that’s a completely different match. As the half wore on we had issues with poor decision making from both Reijnders and Cherki. Second goal killed us unfortunately.

I know we hoped second half that we’d charge out of the blocks and get a goal and the entire mood changes but it felt as if after Haaland’s poor pass we gave up the ghost. Passing after that was dreadful.

Some bigger issues with our lack of creativity post KDB and Trafford’s ability with his feet. Hopefully Ait Nouri’s injury isn’t serious.

While Frank has only had 3 Spurs matches, they loom like a side who’s had a full preseason. We weren’t sharp enough. It’s also easier to sit deep and break than cut through a good defensive block.

I thought in general Reijnders, Cherki, Dias, Stones, Ake, Lewis, Nico and Bernardo struggled today. I don’t think Pep rates O’Reilly defensively in big games as he would definitely have supported Marmoush and Doku better.

Too early for anyone to press the panic button despite some of the nonsense on here.

Unfortunately we have a very tough start this season after no real preseason so things may get a little worse before they get better.

Pep needs to work out what on earth he wants from his wide players, and the blueprint simply has to change.

Starting with the attackers - we’ve been recruiting or starting players who are (fairly described as) slightly. They’re quick, but they’re not strong. Marmoush is something of an exception but that’s because he’s of a normal build - not a strong one. Otherwise Doku, Bobb, Savinho, Bernardo, Foden (although he seems slightly better at retaining through pure tenacity) are a certain blueprint of a winger. The number of times we lose the ball through these players is not great and undermines us in the middle. Losing the ball is traditionally a trade off for wingers - acceptable, because they take players on (which is a risk) so it trades off and you hope the net result is a positive. But… they don’t really take anyone on! They lose the ball tonnes for players who’s main outlet is either a whipped ball in to no one, or a pass back to centre midfielders who (without an effective wide player) trip over themselves.

Meanwhile, Lewis at the back as a slightly and weak full back, on the same side as Bobb, makes zero sense. He’s the sort of player who, if sold to say Crystal Palace, I’d lap up seeing on the team sheet as a weak link in defence. He’s the sort of player who you gain confidence against when playing 5 a side because they’re weak - the sort you look up and see and think, I’ll have a go.

To think that we might be selling Savinho, to acquire another ‘blueprint’ player in Rodrygo (allegedly) doesn’t fill me with confidence.

I know there are faults elsewhere on the pitch, but I truly think they’re caused by an existential crisis of what to do with wide players. It undermines the middle in a game where I felt Stones, Dias and Haaland played well. Reijnders, Cherki and Bernardo couldn’t support in the middle because they were being pulled out wide to support players who couldn’t retain the ball or hold their all. And Trafford had a bit of a tough time but stronger fullbacks would have disabled the press that caused this.

It’s a recruitment issue that won’t cost us every week, because the quality of our squad should get us over the line on many occasions, but which will cost us in games against great tacticians and top athletes. Both of which we encountered today in a top and well drilled spurs side

Well that was crap.
Spurs were well drilled and excellent at pressing.
Sadly tgey will do well.
Our getting out of the press was probably the worst i have seen from a
Pep team.
Honestly, we have the best forward at foot races on the league. Knock it down the channels and/or over the top for Haaland to run onto, and you've broken the press.
That will also keep the opposition honwst on pushing so many players forward to press also giving us more time on the ball at the back.
It really isn't rocket science, let alone rocket engineering.
We play as if Haaland is Alan Smith. He's rapid and progressive and we have completely nullified that.

Think back to his first game, West Ham that goal. Now teams play differently but we let them. He can still bully full backs and centre backs...but on the fucking floor please.

There was a chance in the 2nd half to play it through to him but we are so drilled at going wide first (letting everyone get back and defend) that the ball never came. It is the single biggest waste of a player in the history of football and I don't think I'm being dramatic.

I thought Spurs were good. High pressing and got stuck in when they had to. We obviously didn’t help ourselves but best team won. Bad day learn from the managerial and player mistakes.

LOL..

Only on bluemoon

And the clown takes of Trafford is no good after two games..

/rolleyes
It’s fucking depressing the knee jerk reaction some people have.

I get that it can be cathartic to come on here and complain but the entitlement is fucking ridiculous - if you don’t turn up and you don’t do the simple things right then premier league opposition will punish you.

I love Pep. He took us to a level we never thought possible. But I honesty think it’s time to change. New coach new idea. We need a breath of fresh ideas vs the same ole same ole week in week out. Teams figured out how to play against us. It’s just getting embarrassing now.
Like last week when we won 4 nil, knee jerk x

Out fought and out thought.

People still happy not having Ederson in goal and wanting us to be pressed?

We needed another midfielder this summer but I guess that will have to wait until next summer.
Ederson isn't immune to the odd cockup. Im happy to let the club decide.

They pressed as if their lives depended on it the entire game.
We didn’t.
Too many players throwing their hands up in the air.
We didn’t play in our third we played in our fifth.
Clueless.

Nobody was worse than Lewis. Some as bad but nobody anywhere near as bad as that waste of space

Only in blue moon? I don’t think he know how to change this around. Hope he proves me wrong. But sometimes change is needed wether you like it or not

I thought Spurs were good. High pressing and got stuck in when they had to. We obviously didn’t help ourselves but best team won. Bad day learn from the managerial and player mistakes.
First goal was massive, we didn’t take the Marmoush chance, we lost Air Nouri and then we got punished for 2 mistakes.

We have come to the end of our title years for now and we will need to rebuild which will take time.
The average age of the team is on the decline which it needs to be but we clearly lack the class of player and mentality to challenge for honors and I expect a number of these types of performances with this squad given in part the success that many have had in the past few years.

Today we looked mentally fragile without conviction accepting the fact we are in transition , it might get worse before it gets better it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I get a feeling that some are expecting and accepting mediocrity now.

With such wages they are on, this isn't sunday league where you can experiment, have a pop at this and that, keep doing the same losing strategy over and over again. This isn't a pet project, this is extreme level competition. Why the fuck is it still persisting.
