Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Recruitment or tactics/set up?

Maybe both.

It’s a shitshow and no one wants to admit it.

Pep still saying the same things as last season.

Few days ago he said “we are ready” now it’s “need more time to click”.

If he won’t see the problems then it’s the blind leading the blind I’m afraid.

The team is set to fail. Can’t pass from the back, can’t pass to create and can’t defend. Can’t have all 3.

Extremely sobering performance that. Bullied all over the park and barely created a thing.

This team is unrecognisable as it stands

Spot on

The hunger and fire in the Spurs players were glowing bright, They passed the ball all over the park with ease.
The City players need to want it more than the others or its going to be a long season

I will put it down to it being Spurs and the Curse and Lady Luck and City having an off day
But that Spurs Hunger has to be matched by our players in every game from now on

Hard work is a skill
It’s not a skill, it’s an attitude and professionalism.

I remember making the point several times early last season even though we were blagging results - that we didn’t look anywhere near fit or strong enough.

I really cannot be arsed with having to go through that again this season.

Being intensely fit is non-negotiable at this level and we need to fucking sort it and quickly.

Was fucking dire.

Spurs were by far the better side - stronger, faster, fitter etc and completely bullied us all over the pitch.

Showed up all of our deficiencies.

Pretty obvious, imo, that Pep expected them to sit deep and try and hit us on the counter whereas they pushed up to the half way line and just pressed us like crazy, and it worked.

On a player level, I thought Stones was the only one who came out with any credit whatsoever.

Said plenty of times, and took pelters for saying it, but Dias is garbage.

Rico out of his depth, shame after last week but showed him for what he is today.

Bernie’s cameo was like something out of a comedy show, he looked like he was fucking 90 out there, he’d only been on 2 mins and lost the ball and didn’t even bother trying to get back.

Hey ho, one hell of a reality check.
I agree with you about Dias.

Some folk don't want to acknowledge it. Very lacklustre and had so much of some of last seasons showings written all over it.

I hear you and I feel he should gone with more pace at the back. He has done it before as well. However the game could have gone differently. Spurs were all over the place for first 30.

Next time we should just try to counter them instead.
Spurs were good after the goals which we gifted to them. No point even mentioning the second and I would file that one under bizzare. It was the first goal that really pisses me off.Same old story again and again. There is no way you can win anything defending that way. Early days but that loss puts us under pressure way before it should be due.

The ability to work hard on the pitch is a skill.

Another day we win this game easily. Bur this is spurs we have to hand over cheap points to them. That is what is been like for the last 10 yeas or so.
But, those were away games. We used to hammer Spurs at Etihad all those 10 years, losing at home is a recent thing.

That was a tough watch. Got what we deserved today. Outfought all over the pitch. We were very poor. Worse though we lacked passion and pride.

Bad bad day today . Trafford atm is a great second keeper but nowhere near first choice and it showed but he will be better d
For it . How anyone can be happy going into the Season without a right back is crazy and sorry but ruban Dias has no right being in the squad let alone captain as he is so overrated it’s insane . Would like to say it’s a one off but this is goin to get very messy unless we really change our style and grow some bollocks and start getting involved .

Strange isn’t it, Pelligrini used to school Spurs home n away with ease, but Pep struggles every season against them.
I think Pep gives too much respect to 3 teams. Liverpool United and Spurs. He always plays a chicken shit plan whenever we play these teams. We should NEVER lose to spurs but we do. Time and time again. Against United, he always shows them too much respect. I’m like, just go after these guys. They suck

Despair not. This is a new team and will take time to develop. We need to just keep working at it and not panic. The potential is there. Are those calling for Pep’s head for real?

You're right about learning to win games and put a run of 10 to 15 wins together

Pep is here to be judged and pushed because it's sort of the pressure that he loves, but if Pep doesn't see a long-term future in this squad he will walk away before he is pushed out the door

We need to get right behind Pep and the team and STOP the booing and moaning because the media will be highlighting it to the max

I bloody hate being right when i predict problems with the lineup pre-match. Reijnders ineffective deeper in the 2, lack of pace at fullback meant that first was wasn't possible to prevent, no telling if it would have played out like this but i feel like Nunes would have had the recovery pace to get to the squared ball for the first.

As for the second and the general inability to get out, get used to it i'm afraid. I've been saying all along, the moment we dont have Ederson, we will see a return of being pressed high, we'll see lots more turnovers, get badly exposed and struggle far more to get up the pitch. We saw it all today and we'll see it most weeks. The crowd were already getting frustrated by it, dread to think what it'll be like in a few weeks when it's cost us more. Some of those that have become blind to Edersons impact will have their eyes opened.
Been saying the same since the transfer window opened and the rumours about Ederson started.

We have made some good signing but we havent addressed the real issues:

No cover for Rodri at present- can Nico make the step up?

NO right bak at all

No cover for left back

Just wait till Stones or Ake end up out as well. If we havent addressed the fullback issues by that point and lack of balance in midfield...lots of tech ability but no phyiscal strength in there, then things will get worse.

Brighton (a)
filth (h)
Le Arse (a)
International break in there - so no time to work on things.
Those 3 fixtures will tell us alot about this team - both in terms of ability, and as importantly GRIT because there was little of that on show at lunchtime
