Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Let's be honest here: We were outclassed.
I 8 Spurs, but they were quicker to every ball with sharp and incisive passing and a press that choked us to death.
We were slow and ponderous in attack by comparison and looked tired.
Worse, we had a way out with Haaland (often only with one defender on him on the half way line), but never took the option.

This and I thought we were going to play more direct this season.. but Ruben/ Stones always played it side to side and wanted to attack from the wings.

I don't know if it's innate or they were told but we need to use the big Viking more when he's 1 on 1.

We had 4 shots on target and considering how many positions we got into with better passing we could have had a lot more
If my aunty had bollocks she’d be my uncle. We didn’t hurt them at all. They were completely in control of the game

Why do we have games like Spurs every season and still be a great team
One swallow doesn't make a summer, but City and Pep seem to throw away some points and still come up smelling of roses

In the acceptance rather than the anger camp after that insipid performance ... well beaten by a team who were simply too powerful & more tactically astute on the day .... the game has moved on and we are fast becoming a bunch of lightweights in terms of the physical battles while our 'press' is a dismal shadow of seasons ago ... I thought RAN, Stones & Bobb did well today in a system that looked In serious trouble once RAN went off injured ... that said, Rodri, Ake & Foden not match fit and Gvardial to return so all not lost ... I do have sympathy for Trafford and Rico as both being asked to play in roles that don't align with their abilities ... that's on our tactics and not the players ... Brighton away suddenly takes on more significance ... onwards and upwards blues ...

Not panicking, Spurs defended well and capitalised in two defensive mistakes, one because of a slip on the new surface and the other by an inexperienced goalie. It should have been a draw. The ref did us no favours. But we never really looked like scoring, we didn’t have enough pre-season to gel the newcomers with the established. I am sure we will improve but we have some tough games ahead, hopefully the International break will give players a chance to get into gear
Defended what? We put no pressure on their defence what so ever, shit corners, shit set pieced around the box, one of the worse displays I have seen in a long while

Was Pep Lijnders there today? Didn’t see him in the dugout at all today. Might just have been because I was covering my eyes most the game

Im not on Social Media. But id appreciate it if Dias could leave his frickin shorts alone. What is that nonsense pulling them up showing off his quads at corner kicks? He needs to focus on the football. He’s been dross for 18-24mths.
And then the club rewards him with a 2 year extension. Along with the January window and letting too many players getting too old together, very bizarre decisions from above.

Trafford being asked to play in net shocker

The rebuild has virtually been done, 1 or 2 more maybe.

The signings we have made are young.

We were shit today, no control and out muscled.

Fuck ups cost us at both ends.

No one played well and some were very dissapointing. In hindsight, possibly too many thrown in for home debuts in a tough game.

Without last weekend I'd be a lot more worried. Today was terrible though, no getting away from it

I was surprised with Spuds though, they will probably revert to being shit soon enough.

Then again, they are Champions of Europe, they told us so.

The hotel looks fooking huge!
I mean we will need to bring in some more players over the coming windows over the next two seasons that are going to be part of the next title winning side , better than what we currently have in all facets of the game.

You would expect some of the players we have bought in the past two windows to be around in 2 -3 seasons that can handle the pace and physicality of the premier league but the bulk of the last title winning side have to be moved on.

Sorry to be heretical but we are too predictable in playing out from the back most of the time. The best sides now have players who have both the speed and technical ability to negate this approach. The lack of speed in moving the ball forward with too many short passes invites pressure. When we have players who lack physicality on the ball it does not work . I commented pre-season having watched Chelsea pre-season against BL that they had a dangerous mix of pace, technical competence and physicality. If we perform like that when we meet them they will run up a cricket score. In our post season analysis many of us said we needed to adapt our style of play but we haven't and the players we have bought are unlikely to help in this process

Pep and WINGERS ? Can we GO back to a false 9 system, please
Games like today we would have rolled them over and their defence wouldn't know who to pick up.
Haaland can not keep running the line and letting the defenders just sitting in shape knowing City wingers will not cross the ball and just give it back to the midfield,

Cherki in the David Silva role please

Depressing performance from City today , we seemed second to most balls, and created very little all game, aside from a few early efforts which their keeper saved ...Tottenham got the points and its hard to say that they didn't deserve them ..... we showed some fight, but the reality is that Tottenham showed a whole lot more!

Trafford is only young, but he's got eyes and a brain and he needs to use them ....
no matter what Pep tells him to do you DO NOT play ridiculous short balls in your own box which immediately put your own players under pressure .... just hoof the fkn thing upfield, and worry about anything Pep says later on!

Once he'd done that, and the second goal had gone in, the game was as good as over, because Spurs were defending well, and we just weren't showing enough to get back into it.
