Spurs (H) Post Match Thread

jose please don't mug us off ? man city played in mid week also. so extra time of 30 mins with 6 subs should be no problem for any club in the premier league, jose never once give man city credit for the win. bad loser

BBC interview after match by jose

It's the bollox Liverpool are only shit because there are no fans, it's how the scousers are justifying their shitness
I think there is less intimidation of referees and that has more bearing than their twelfth man crowd myth.
The refs are still shite and offer us little protection but they are less likely to be pressured into clearly biased decisions.

Doesn’t seem like it at times when the same refs as usual show there own bias against us, but I don think the likes of Liverpool are getting the same sway against all other teams, that they felt entitled to at Anfield.

I'm going to be controversial and say that I still rate Mourinho.

Firstly, people are quick to dismiss his time at United. I'm sure he didn't want Pogba - and neither did Ferguson. He was a distraction and there was no disgrace finishing 2nd to that City team - one of the best of all time. He won the Europa League, Carabao Cup and got them into the CL spots. Given the job that Gollum did on that team, I'd call that some success. He wanted to buy Maguire for £60m and fell out with the board and they went and spent £85m on him a year later. Regardless of your views on Maguire, Mourinho spotted a "gem" (Pep wanted him too) and could've got him for far less.

When he went to Spurs, they were a team who'd overachieved with Pochettino. They ran Leicester close in the league and go to a CL final and that was a phenomenal achievement for them. The board didn't invest in the team and the season after they were so poor they were near the relegation spots when Mourinho took over. That was a team that was seriously on the slide. If the board don't back the manager, I can't think of any team that does well as a result. I was surprised Mourinho went to Spurs as firstly they don't play his style (Pocchetino is an attacking, flair manager)- and they won't pay big money. Mourinho knows what good players look like - he's signed plenty of top class ones over the years.

I think it's harsh to judge managers on this season as it's so unlike other seasons. Excluding City, there's around 10 teams trying to get into the top 4. They can't all be in it.

The guys won titles in England, Spain, Italy and Portugal. He's won domestic cups, the Europa League and 2 Champions Leagues. His record is pretty much only bettered by Pep. It's telling that Spurs are the only team he's managed and not won multiple trophies.

Of course, his mouth lets him down but I do think when Spurs sack him they will find that the next manager won't take them much higher.

Could we play 3 at the back for Everton?
We play three at the back when attacking for some time now. Pep has been going with this extremely successful 3-2-2-3 for a few games now. If you mean the classic three CBs line, I think it is the waste of resources and quality for a team like us. Three CBs at the back is always a sign of weakness.

Maureen saying his team was tired , awwww diddums , his team was outclassed from minute one , shame the season didnt end in November Spursy would have been champions. One of our easiest games of the season if you had put 11 cones out with Spursy shirts on they would have shown more bottle , southern shandy drinking w*nkers , cant wait for the Carabao Cup Final , Maureen should be able to give his team a little rest becaise they have nothing else to play for.
Great win that. How did Lamela only get one yellow.

I don't keep up with the changes to the coaching set up, but something has happened so Pep sees it all clearly. Obvs a wise voice in his ear.

If you listen to Pep's post match interview he says they knew Spurs would counter and create chances, so it was up to the lads to try to restrict Spurs as much as possible, but create more for ourselves
Pretty much saying, you score one, we'll score two

It was almost a confession that he no longer has any pragmatism and he wants us to play controlled attacking football without worrying too much about the opposition.

Or to summarise, Pep's not overthinking

I genuinely don’t rate Mourinho in the slightest any more. He used to make teams greater than the sum of the parts because he created a siege mentality and could make players run through walls for him. That bubble burst a long time ago, the players just think he’s a wanker nowadays. Busted flush.
He’s out dated.
I think there are more teams in the Prem now influenced by the City possession based, quick movement of the ball game, than the park the bus and hit fast on the break game.
Klopp would want to adapt as well or he’ll fall by the wayside too.

Brilliant result, so happy with that! Another rival beaten down, just hope we can do the same in the league cup final.

Hope Gundogan is ok, he’s outstanding at the moment.

We all know King Harry will want Jose sacked in the next couple of weeks then they'll start performing for their "new/next" coach, just in time for the league cup final.

Please spuds don't listen to "harry's dribble" and keep sour puss so we can carry on picking up our annual league cup

you know what that's not as crazy as it sounds ? from top of the premier league early season spurs have fallen faster than liverpool. jose is playing around at club football until a national team job pops up. even the portugal job could be on offer after the euros

I saw that he went of his way to fist bump Bernie and Cancelo, already looking for his way out.

Another win and another clean sheet.
Only downside Gundogan going off. Hoping it's not too bad and just a bit of a tight groin.
Everton Wednesday not the easiest of games but every opportunity to chalk up another win and keep the momentum going with the way we are playing.

Mental to be saying it when we win 3-0, but you are quite right. It was a very strange performance, he let so many fouls against us go and consequently yellow cards. Arsehole.
You could say he was instructed to let the Spurs players inflict damage to our players. Rags with var are still sniffing around.

City centurions were unbelievable along with City side that accumulated 98 points.

But this is our best rounded team isn't it?
I feel this side could be well below par in games but still not concede and still get a win. We look a lot more like a team now ready for two legged ties in Europe.
Despite the recent scorelines, I don't think we're as good going forwards as we once were.

However, I think we're something else defensively. We were really good at the back in 18/19, but I feel that this team now is less error prone and can defend counter attacks better than that side ever could. Plus the fact that we're more conservative and patient in possession means that we're far more suited to pressing immediately after losing possession.

I respect your opinion and some of your points hold water, but it's about the here and now. For me he's become, over recent years, a toxic manager and someone who's tactics are stale. He has never really adapted and is slowly being left behind. I'm not sure Levy will allow Mourinho to indulge himself for too long either if performances like this become the standard.

Have to say that once again Johnny Stones was imperious, oozing confidence, a joy to watch.

Laporte still shaky, just kept wanting to put his foot through it so he couldn’t make an error, hopefully today will have done him good.

Rodders magnificent.

Zinchenko fantastic.

Gundo just a goal machine, what can you say.

Raz better again when running at the full back but still not on it.

Bernie being just Bernie, great energy.

Cancelo good again.

Eddie just a legend.

Jesus worked hard as usual.

Not Phil’s best day.
