Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

some of the reactions of so called "fans" to a team that has won 43 points from the last 48, top of the league by 6 points, 3 of the last 4 titles, losing to a top 6 club 3-2 in the very last minute whilst having more chances and more xG has been outright bizarre, genuinely some of you need to get a grip.

the players didn't turn shit because of one loss, they are still amazing players, each and every one of them, and the system *works*. if it didn't work we wouldn't be in this position.

All it looked like on tv was half the team having an off day, us allowing Kane to do whatever he wanted for 90 minutes and schoolboy defending for all three goals

not sure lack of decent chances was the problem today

I think, just to compound what I saw, was that we were putting in crosses that went to no one because we can't measure, these days, crosses for a striker in particular.

That's not to say we haven't and can't do it, but that's underlined by the size of the defenders we do that against. Spuds have BIG defenders and we didn't have a front line to make them think about it. We don't use a full compendium of tools for attack because we lack a striker.

This is where Haaland, who can also be a false nine, comes into the equation; a younger and better version of Kane, who destroyed us in the air yesterday. It's a piece we lack and a piece we should acquire for completion of Guardiola's magnum opus.

Cancelo on the left seldom takes on the defender down the outside. He stops and turns inside on his right foot. Yesterday it was just to predictable and Spurs coped with it easily.

i think pep could have used zinchenko at left back and Cancelo in midfield instead of gundogan

LOL yeah of course he is!

Obviously it's not that simple or Pep, the best manager in the game, who see's them everyday, would be doing that.

Pep doesn’t always prioritise defensive stability over build up

He wanted Eric Garcia as one of our main CB’s, he’s diabolical

The slight positives of having a left footed cb are vastly outweighed by Laportes lack of pace and his general lack of defensive nous.

is that why he spent last season as 5th choice?

again, I cannot stress this enough, you are talking about the starting CB for the best defense in europe.

statistically, and by goals conceded, chances conceded, shots conceded, xG conceded, we are by far the best defense in europe.

It's incredible how little nuance people insert into this.

Clearly laprote and cancelo are doing something right if we concede so little.

If I'm going to write anything I always try to wait until the day after, things generally look slightly different when the emotion isn't there. I can't really complain too much about our team selection and I thought, while we weren't at our best, we actually played some decent stuff....going forward. Our defence, however, had a collective day to forget. We seemed wide open on the flanks and didn't pick up a late running Kane twice for his goals. A little bemused that Sterling got hooked as there were others who I thought were well below par. Gundogan played well though. Thought Spurs were set up very well to do exactly what they did...although we gave them a helping hand....and I guess Utd and Liverpool will try to play the same way. So we'd better learn from this. Yeah pissed off at the result and hopefully it focuses a few minds. Still twists and turns to come and it's still in our hands....which I guess I would take at this point in the season. I've no desire to read the previous 135 or 136 pages.....we will lose games, it happens, just keep your trust in this team and manager to go and put it right.

We look better defensively with Zinchenko at left back and Foden on the left who always tackles back. Cancelo has been brilliant this season but is much stronger on the right side. I think Spurs targeted Cancelo yesterday.
