I don't understand what goes on at spurs. They keep saying they've gotta sell to buy and they can't compete with the likes of us financially. Yet they have one of the biggest squads in the league, full of over-paid players who don't play regularly for their first team but most of teams would take without a second thought. Bentley, Kranjcar, Jenas, Bassong etc and yet they keep pursuing expensive upgrades.

Sky is saying they are close to signing Diarra from Real....Now Diarra is a quality defensive midfielder. But he already has two good players in that position (Sandro and Palacios) who cost them a lot of money and are no doubt on big wages. As well as Huddlestone, Jenas, King and Kaboul who could all play there.

It's no wonder they can't compete with this kind of transfer policy. And I suspect they could be in massive financial trouble soon. Just as every other club has after Redknapp (Bournemouth, West Ham, Portsmouth)

It looks like Palacios and Crouch might be on their way out. But I can't understand why a club that has to sell to buy, would look get rid of two high quality, low maintenance players and replace them with two over paid, slightly higher quality, trouble makers. Especially considering Sandro is still young and looked impressive once he settled in last year, and his development is only going to be stunted if he isn't first choice.

I don't really know the point of this post, so I'm sorry for the forum cluttering. But it absolutely does my head in that Spurs get so much sympathy from SKY and BBC and how everyone loves 'Arry.

Re: Tottenham's transfer policy....

Spurs aren't afraid of splashing the cash when we have to, but generally our purchases have made sound financial sense and we invariably get our money back or even make a profit when we sell players on.

In fact, Spurs have made some £40 million profit overall on player trading during the Premier League Era.

However, like all well-run businesses, we live within our means and we haven't run-up huge debts buying players or paying astronomincal wages, like many of our rivals have.

Our starting squad last night against Hearts cost just £54.3 million to assemble, which by today's inflated standards is chicken feed (no pun intended!)...

GOMES Heurelho 1 PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands) (06-08) £7,000,000
WALKER Kyle 28 Sheffield United (07-09) £3,000,000
KABOUL Younes 4 Portsmouth (01-10) £4,000,000
DAWSON Michael 20 Nottingham Forest (01-05) £3,500,000
ASSOU-EKOTTO Benoit 32 RC Lens (France) (07-06) £3,500,000
LIVERMORE Jake 29 Tottenham Youth (07-07) £0
KRANJCAR Niko 21 Portsmouth (09-09) £2,000,000
LENNON Aaron 7 Leeds United (07-05) £800,000
VAN DER VAART Rafael 11 Real Madrid (Spain) (08-10) £8,000,000
BALE Gareth 3 Southampton (05-07) £7,500,000
DEFOE Jermain 18 Portsmouth (01-09) £15,000,000
Total cost of starting XI v Hearts £54,300,000

...that averages-out at less than £5m per player.

Our annual wage bill is almost exactly at the Premier League average, which shows we're punching well above our weight and getting exceptional value for money from our squad.

and Talkshite had a phone in today to ask what was the reason for the gulf in class between Scottish and English teams. A few jocks phoned in to say it was money, and the pundits tried their hardest to say it was something to do with it, but that wasn't all. Well, although Spurs haven't spent as much as some (us, the Rags, Chelsea and Liverpool), I would suggest that your starting 11 last night at £54.3m is probably equivalent to the whole of the SPL! Money talks.....

Or to put in into perspective, our entire starting XI last night cost 57% of Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer fee.

and your trophies = 10% of his medals

think that makes him a bargain

Re: Tottenham's transfer policy....

Tottenhams transfer policy seems to be to target the best players in the world and then go flat out for a deal, so long as they can get around the small obstacle of the transfer fee and wage they can't afford.

Unfortunately, not every club is blessed with it's own despot who has a string of oil wells at his disposal so we have to manage as best we can, given the meagre resources at our disposal.

I don't know whether you are misinformed, delusional or lying. But either way you are wrong.

Spurs have paid £433,926,000 on transfers between 1992 and 2011 and have brought in just £263,440,680 meaning a net spend of £170,485,320. In addition to this, since 'Arry took over Tottenham have spent 95m and brought in around 54m. For a loss of 40m

Here is my evidence: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.myfootballfacts.com/TottenhamHotspurPlayerTransferHistory1908-2009.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Tottenha ... -2009.html</a>

EDIT: Also you're current first team squad cost 189 million to assemble. And that is after Keane left

Don't believe a word that's written on that site.

The bloke who runs it is a right tosser!

Re: Tottenham's transfer policy....

For an ideal example of some of spurs poorer buys, look no further than David Bentley 16m give or take a million,

They will be lucky to see 5 back of that. Levy will have a fooking fit at such a loss.
