St. Swithun’s day

With the 15th July fast approaching and St Swithun’s say supposed to mark the next 40 days of weather the current unsettled weather seems to be here to stay for the rest of the summer.

Hocus pocus or are you a believer?

It was either this thread or one on favourite breakfast cereals. I’m a big fan of sugar puffs.
There's a grain of truth in the St Swithin's tale but it's certainly nothing magical. If a weather front sets in around about this time of year it can sit for a long time if the jet stream works in the way it's expected to. That's a non scientific/meteorological way of describing it but the gist of the point is there.

Not hocus pocus but a general rule based on old agricultural experience. The exact date doesn't matter but there is something in it that the late summer patterns tend to be set by now. I wouldn't be surprised if the long settled and warm period has been and gone this year in June, barring a nice September/October, and we're stuck with this weather now.

Pretty sure they're not very good for you but agree, they are like breakfast crack. Same with Frosties.

The same with red sky at night, Shepard’s delight, red sky in the morning, Shepard’s warning is something to do with high and low pressure effecting the sky colour as the sun sets/rises. I do love these old sayings that science has proven to have truth to.

Apparently shreddies have more sugar in them and they’re knitted by your man. I also like shreddies. Honey nut but not really ever got in to Frosties

I would take Sugar Puffs over Frosties partly for the texture but also for the fact they don't make you feel like your teeth are dissolving on contact and of course we had our own Dunny Monster.

I’ve recently been experimenting with mixing cereals. Not sure if I’m some sort of deviant but I had a threesome last week with shredded wheat, cornflakes and rice crispies in the same bowl.

The Met Office are predicting exceptionally hot weather for the next 5-6 weeks.

Think of the heatwave last year but lasting longer

I am going to get my Club Tropicana t=shirt out of the loft in anticipation of the clement weather.

Nowt wrong with that. Tell you what works well on that front imo. If you have a base cereal like cornflakes and then something a bit fancier in a slightly lower proportion. My current go to is cornflakes with a decent smattering of those mini shredded wheats that have a blueberry filling inside.
