This will never change anything. The government don't care about petitions on this, or about what football fans themselves actually want. They care about getting votes and maintaining their power, and standing up at football matches isn't a vote winner. There are far too many people in this country who never attend games and think standing up instantly will lead to another Hillsborough, add in a few piss poorly researched inflammatory articles in the likes of The Daily Mail and you've got the "Mary Whitehouses" of this World getting all irate about things that don't concern them. It's an issue that the Government want nothing to do with, and it'll never change.

The only constant in life is 'change' !

Try thinkin positive eh Matty !

If there's group of people or fans in the sporting world who are so supressed, I'd like to see them.

Can't stand.(but concert fans can)
Can't drink.(on the terraces, but concert fans can)
Can't smoke.(but concert fans can, including drugs)(don't smoke myself)
Can't leave a train station without being herded into a venue against our will.
Can't drink on a coach.
Etc, etc.

Yet these MP's can do as they like.

Rugby fans can drink on the terraces.

I stand up every week so it doesn't bother me.
It will never be allowed back into English football because someone at the top would have to make a risky desicion that wouldn't bring in more money. Look at the twats putting 39th game and playoffs to the vote. All complete bollocks, but they never mention safe standing which is what the fans want.

Technically, it would.
Standing area = a lot more fans in the same amount of space.

*signed petition*

Not for the FA/Prem League who make the decision. The clubs would make the money and City tried to get a standing area when they built coms but predictably were knocked back by the powers that be.

im trying to join the forum but i ave a stupid question. when it asks for website url what do i put?

I would be highly in favour of 'safe standing' areas.

The only thing is, I would then want standing in the seating areas banned - apart from getting up to cheer goals, etc. A lot of the present problems arise from people who want to sit down finding themselves behind people who want to stand up. Why not have a standing area at the rear of each section?

Because I like to stand however I don't want to have to be in a shit area. Make a standing stand.

all this means is that you have to sit or stand for 90 minutes.

IMO it's a bad idea.

the regular lads on the old kippax or kop didnt seem to mind

sorry for being brought up in a different era then.

if those days were right, theyd still be here. The fact they're not tells you to get over it.

it tells you that hillsborough (even though it was VERY tragic and RIP to the 96) was blown WAY WAY out of proportion and everyone overreacted, forcing all seater stadiums we have today.

fair enough, but coming from the era when it has been all seater the doubts will forever linger.

i AM from that era, and i think as long as numbers are controlled and policed properly, it could easily work

i agree with supercity 36. heres a question, how can rugby have standing sections at the grounds and be safe but football cant? your even allowed to drink alcohol in the stands at rugby. yes, our sport has been plagued by hooliganism in the past but with cctv these days thats more or less been eradicated.
