Star Wars - Originals/Prequels

I like them all but in different measures. Thought TPM and AOTC were a bit weak and the duel in AOTC was piss poor between Obi/Anakin v Dooku. ROTS was decent enough with a good duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin. Windu v Palpatine was pretty good too.

Favourite was ROTJ but Empire has overtaken for me. I've read a few books which include the trilogy around ROTS including Dark Lord rising which is ok.

Are the Admiral Thawn books any good? Need something new to read.

Yes I'm a bit of a geek at heart

Like them all but when you see the saber duel in Sith and compare that to Luke v Vader, Luke v Vader was like watching Frank Bruno box (very slow).

Must admit, the clone wars cartoons are quite watchable also.

And come end of the year, The Old Republic MMORPG, set 10,000 years before the Star Wars we grew up with and when there were lots of Sith.

A New Hope will always be my favorite, how the storyline pans out to make Empire and Return easy to watch,
Not into the prequels at all, no acting as per the originals.

Im 16 so grew up with the prequels but i really enjoy the originals. I reckon most people prefer the originals because of the whole 'Luke i am your father' part, but the prequels have far better duels and action sequences.
Ewoks <3

This is, I feel, one of the problems of the prequels. For example, the Darth Maul vs Qui Gon and Obi Wan duel. Yes it looks nice and all that, but there is no story behind it. We hardly know anything about Darth Maul, other than we're kind of "told" he's bad, but its never explained why. He only says one sentence in the whole film! Why are they fighting? What are they fighting over? Darth Maul says "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi, at last we will have our revenge". What revenge? Its never explained, and this is the problem with the prequels.

Agreed. Darth Maul was a class looking baddie, and had all the makings of a top notch character, but they killed him off inside 2 hours. He could have spanned all 3 prequels and it could have lead to a Vader/Maul epic battle.

I'm 16, and far prefer the originals, the story is just.. better in my eyes. The prequels aren't terrible, but they certainly aren't amazing. One question I pose is, did they do anything in terms of books on what happened after ROTJ?

I've not read any SW books but yeah there's load of them set before during and after the events of the films!

Princess Leah gets married in one of them apparently.

Has anyone seen the "Star Wars Holiday Special"?

I bought it on ebay a few years ago but I think they've clamped down on bootlegs on there now.

Yeah they're all on youtube along with Kurt Russell reading for the role of Han Solo!

By far and away the best books are the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn
These books are set right after ROTJ and deal with the politics of the new republic and the empire as it tries to rebuild
Han and Leia get married and have kids and Luke goes looking for more Jedi
Wont spoil it any more and you could pick up all 3 books from ebay for under a tenner
They are

Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command
