Yeah I got what you meant. Playing anywhere and showing ambition are not the same thing though.
Besides we have no idea the extent of offers he might have had. Beyond the rumoured interest.
He's here now regardless.

In all this goalie merry-go-round I do feel sorry for Ortega. He's been the best number 2 we've had for years and years and barely did a thing wrong.
If things go sideways, i.e one of our top 2 get injured then he is off the house couch.Why should we keep him for insurance?
He's probably not going to play any minutes for us
Sure, its unlikely. But he is already here. And i personally like the guy and whR he's done for us. I am happy for him to stay as insurance

There’s no point in getting rid of him now, as we can’t use his squad place for another player til January.
We have the opportunity to re-evaluate in the winter window, and if we decide to bring in a right back or to fill another position - then it may be we decide he’s the one to make room.
But until then - if it’s not him, it’s an empty place in our squad list - which is of no use whatsoever to us.

I thought the same until we gave him a run of games. Once we saw more of him we saw he was less of a keeper.
That FA Cup goal was horrendous v the rags and last season he had a genuine chance to usurp Ederson and wasn’t good at all.

The entire squad, including the manager, let the club and the fans down in the cup final. Frankly for the entirety of last season, stretching back into the season before.

Yes I agree though I can’t think it came as a surprise to him.It was Bettinelli on the bench yesterday as the 3rd choice keeper. Rather than Ortega. Think that says something, myself.

He had a run of games the season before and we won the fa cup, conceding one goal which was a dubious penalty. Last year to a man everyone wasn't up to it. Ederson had a stinker and Ortega didn't cover himself in any glory, which is hardly surprising considering our defence and vulnerabilities last year.I thought the same until we gave him a run of games. Often a contract will have an "unused substitute" clause. They get paid to sit on the bench. Ortega's number is likely higher than Bettineli's.Do they charge by weight now?

Assuming that is in there, I would imagine a player like him would be paid a weekly wage regardless.

Every single player has it, of course they get a wage but no point giving Ortega an extra 10k to sit on the bench when Bettinelli can be third choice for a quarter of the price.Assuming that is in there, I would imagine a player like him would be paid a weekly wage regardless.
