I think this but also was being kept around waiting for the Donna deal to happen, which took a while. so maybe the club at fault too.I reckon he's said no to a few moves and pissed off the club, hence the freeze out.
Im amazed we haven't heard anything about him at all, especially with it being a World Cup year.
Yeah, I mean tbh its probably one of those where any move is half the wage, his odds of getting in the german squad were pretty miniscule anyway, so he's just decided to take the money, probably assumed he'd still make the bench/be involved in some capacity, so turned down moves. Although Bettinelli, I'm sure, was signed to be 3rd choice and leaving him out straight after he signed would be punishing him unfairly also.
I expect we may have Bettinelli as 3rd choice for a few years all being well, so I guess we're preferring to treat him well rather than the guy who will no doubt move on relatively soon.
Bit of a shame for Ortega, I do hope something is sorted for him early January.

Ortega had plenty of opportunity to leave, even had the Burnley offer so he wouldn’t have had to uproot his life. Every single player will have some sort of bonus for being on the bench and as as second choice keeper id imagine that Ortega in fact has a very nice bonus for an appearance fee because they are expected to be quite rare.That would rather depend on his contract would it not? I can't see why he would have an appearances clause.
Seems professional enough to do his training and go through the motions but the club made it clear he wasn't required so why would he be on the bench?

I can assure you that it is, source being a close friend having made over 200 apps in the championship and if they are at that level, they are definitely in the prem.I have heard of appearance bonuses. I have never heard of being named to the bench bonus. It’s not a thing.

That doesn't mean that every single club and every single player has the same contract. I guess he'll be gone on a free in a couple of months or so anyway. Whether it is or isn't I have no idea. But it makes sense for keepers, more than outfield players. Otherwise a second choice keeper would hardly ever get a bonus.
