Stephen Mfuni

Doyle to replace Ake this summer, Akanji to stick around for another 12 months as a squad player, while Mfuni gets a full season of EDS football and then replace Akanji in 2026:

RB: [new signing], Lewis
RCB: Khusanov, Reis
LCB: Dias, Doyle
LB: Gvardiol, Mfuni

Lots of versatility there too, as Doyle can play LB and both LBs can play CB. Khusanov might be able to play RB too. Might need a 5th CB, but if we could have Lewis, Doyle and Mfuni as first-teamers that would be great from an academy perspective
Jonny, Jonny Stones !!

Slight edit.

EB: Eccles Basement.

Couldn`t find a thread on him, and it`s about time he has one. After closely watching the academy for the last 10 years, I think this guy is comfortably the best defensive prospect we`ve had coming through the ranks. Only turned 17 yesterday, but has been playing regularly for the U18s for 18 months now. Can play both LB and CB, did a role similar to Gvardiol yesterday in the UEFA Youth League. Incredible ball-playing defender who reads the game very well, and is very mature for his age. He`s miles ahead of what THB, Tosin, Mbete, JSP etc. was at that age. Made his England U19 debut at 16. Expecting him to make his first team debut within a year

He's absolutely brilliant.

This was just the Midtjylland UEFA Youth League game even though it's already been posted, you should realise just from this snippet how talented he is...

I'm not sure that as many blues as they should realise how gifted Mfuni is, honestly I think he breaks though to the first team squad by the end of next season if not earlier.

I always thought Taylor Harwood-Bellis was our obvious .last ready prospect from the previous CB's we've had at youth level, he definitely deserved a chance ahead of Eric Garcia who he was miles better than and still is better than.
Callum Doyle also has top potential ability with a touch of class about him but needed more loans, the only worry is how he handles the pace of the Prem and if Callum does that well then he'll also have a good career whether that's here or elsewhere.

I already think Stephen Mfuni is easily the most talented defender that I've seen for City at youth level I'm that confident in his talent, this is whether he makes it here or not and he he only turned 17 on Wednesday but I think his development should be treated as a high priority for us, it might sound premature to say but I'd be really surprised (barring injuries) if Stephen Mfuni doesn't become a top Prem player.

Not sure THB is better than Eric Garcia. One is playing for one of the worst PL sides ever and the other is scoring in La Liga and the CL.

Sure THB plays every game, but so would Garcia for Southampton.

Garcia for me certainly wasn't as ready as THB when both were here it's obvious from watching the academy back then who should've played from the two, I'm not saying this will always be the case nor am I even slating Garcia I think he's potentially a very good player, but I also believe he had favouritism and shouldn't have been anywhere near our first team at the time.

I still think that THB is a better fit right now for most teams but Garcia suits Barca and THB is at very a poor side getting exposed, even though they're very different in style and there's an argument to say THB is at a team destined for relegation, he won't stay there long term and I think Garcia is benefitting from playing for a much better side.

I can see them both having good careers, think THB could go to Everton once they sell Branthwaite and then looking quite solid under Moyes, that's if an even better side doesn't go in for him because the fact he's been England u21 captain could spark interest.

Having watched youth football over many years I am always wary of going over the top about the emergence of young talent especially in today days financial environment where young talent can easily have their heads turned by money and consequently lose focus. But all things being equal I totally agree with your assessment that this lad could " go all the way " he is the most talented young defender I have ever seen at City.

Mfuni is a great talent, but I’m not sure that means much. He didn’t play for the EDS the night before so was probably there to make up the numbers. I’ve seen the likes of Seb Naylor and Jaden Heskey train with the first team before and they’re both nowhere near the required level to make it at City

I'm sure it'll mean a hell of a lot to the lad, let alone what he takes away from training with the 1st team.

First team staff choose players to train who are of a standard to cope with sessions as I understand it so Heskey, Naylor and a few others not rated on here are quite liked by the manager and his staff.

Probably won’t be good enough for the first team I agree but neither were Rogers, or Jeremie Frimpong and they are doing ok.

You just never know, development is not linear

Feels like he’s still behind Lewis and O’Reilly for the left back role and Reis and Simpson-Pusey at centre back.
I think you are bang on with this assessment mate, I really rate Mfuni and for me he's a better LB than O'Reilly and Lewis and certainly a better CB than Simpson-Pusey but, like most on here I don't see him day in day out and it is about his progression.
I think our defensive coaches are awful, we are all over the place so I really hope it's not them making the decisions on his path to the first team.
The very best of luck to all of them it's a very cruel game football and breaks so many hearts but at least at City you can see they do there very best for the players careers and try to find a path for them all.
