Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Just another drummed up story from the media to de-stabilise Sterling. Any player would be an idiot to sign a contract before the World Cup. If he has a stormer then we will have to pay him top dollar if not then he will have to settle for less. It's just routine negotiation. I thought Jesus was also in negotiation. If his agent is any good he will also hold out till after the World Cup. Players' values will rocket or plummet based on what happens.

The rags were sitters,I'd have backed anyone in that starting 11 that day to score both of those, including Ederson,so how many are you saying ? Or are you content with the 18 he did score ?

Am I content? Are you serious? The fifth highest scorer in the league, I'm over the moon mate.

I wonder if the potential signing of Mahrez is why talks have stalled. If he is concerned about playing time then that's completely understandable imo.

But they only remember the goals, not the gilt edged chances remember, they don't count

They most certainly do count but Salah missed twice the amount of 'big chances' that Sterling did according to Premier league data, even Aguero and Jesus missed more than him, do you recall them?

This all the way.

Join Real Madrid?. He'd get slaughtered at the berbabeau. He had a good season that could and should have been better. Some of the chances he missed were bordering on the ridiculous. Peps reaction to some of them said it all. As others have said he's certainly not irreplaceable. Doubt his bargaining position will improve after the world cup.

Salah got 32 but meant nowt in the end I suppose you are right, you as well must take off the over protective cap off as well,at times, don't get me wrong,I go and have celebrated every goal he has scored, none more so than the one v Southampton that night, immense, but I can't help feeling there won't be a statue or a stand named after him, once he leaves us

Pep said on sky 2 weeks ago that he can forgive anything even misses so long as they run,try and play as a team,he also said arteta has been working with raz and sane to improve their output and it's working very well, both have huge jumps in goals/asssists last season than the season before, they are young, raz was stunted by mp now he has been set free and will continue to improve,if we sell him we would have to pay more to get a young english winger anywhere near as good as him

I agree with what you have Posted. However I believe when it comes to sticking it in the net you either have it or you don't. Not sure it can be coached into you, no matter how good that coach is.

Overprotective my eye, you castigate him for flaws you wouldn't even acknowledge in other's games.

FWIW I don't think he'll have a statue either.

There was one that was ridiculous.

This is based on a Sky Sports story - so probably bollocks.
The bare facts are Sterling is replaceable. KDB is not.
In 2017/18 in all competitions Sterling had:
  • 24 goals
  • 12 assists
  • 1.6 key passes per game average.
Wheras KDB had:
  • 13 goals
  • 20 assists
  • 2.6 key passes per game average.
  • Note: KDB is also pretty good at defending.

To deserve anything like KDB, Sterling's goals, assists and key passes ALL have to go up pretty dramatically per 90 mins he plays. I would say somthing like the following based on the number of games he played this season:
55 goals + assists
2.1 Key passes per game.
A slight improvement in pass percentage and his defensive stats.

Give him 250k plus the rest performance based on the above and he can have what Sky says he wants.

He' should remember that he'd get slaughtered at other clubs for the chances he misses for us.
if he does want to move on, well fair enough, thanks for all the fish and all that. I'm not going to be a dip(er)stick.

So back to the contract,if he wants to earn the big bucks that some of the others do,and doesn't get it,what then ? Dummy spitting ?

He should be quite happy with being involved with the best squad our club has ever had, winning trophies/medals.....but to some it's not about that is it,so we shall see.

If (and I hope he does) have a great WC then he has the ammunition to come back with, but as we have all seen in recent England performances, the treasurer at City will hardly be quaking over next few weeks.............

Easily replaceable but hopefully we’ll strike a deal to keep him. I think Sterling will regret this impasse because I doubt he’ll score as many goals next season if we bring in Mahrez to compete with him.

I think Pep knows there are better players out there in his position the kind who will finish the big chances when it matters and even though he'd be a good squad player I think to have a serious chance of winning CL Pep is right.
