Sources have suggested Fiorentina “promised” Stevan Jovetic will be sold to Manchester City next summer for €30m.

The Viola refused all offers for the Montenegro international, including proposals from Juventus and Chelsea.

“We are very happy with the fact he remained. Our President did very well to convince Stevan to marry this project,” said director Sandro Mencucci.

However, according to Goal.com Italia, Jovetic only agreed to stay in Florence for another 12 months.

It would be similar to the deal the club struck with Luca Toni, who was convinced to delay his transfer to Bayern Munich by a year to help them through the post-Calciopoli campaign.

Jovetic was a key figure in order to build the team around and bring in reinforcements such as Borja Valero, Alberto Aquilani, Emiliano Viviano and David Pizarro.

It is alleged that he only accepted this role for one more year with the promise he could join a bigger club in 2013-14.

This agreement also sees Jovetic ‘thank’ the Viola for standing by him when he spent a year out with a devastating knee injury.

His price-tag is around €30m, although it could rise to €35m and above if he has a great season.

Re: Jovetic

Also from Football Italia:

There are reports Fiorentina are introducing an ‘anti-Juventus’ clause into Stevan Jovetic’s new contract to bar him from moving to Turin.

The two clubs were already in talks for the Montenegro international this summer, but the Viola rejected a bid thought to be worth €25m.

We could have a free run at him next summer unless we alter our targets (Falcao for example, although he is a different type of player to Jovetic).

Not as good as Cazorla who was sold for half Jovetic price.

definitely, 30 millions for him would be robbery. I don't have idea why is he wanted and needed by City at first place unless some sales are planned for next year.
Me neither, but he's very popular. Would not get in the team at all.

Re: Jovetic

If Dzeko and Tevez were to be released next summer I suppose we could make do with Falcao and Jovetic as ther replacements. :-)

Atletico Madrid refuse to sell players to Real Madrid. Real wanted Aguero and Atletico wouldn't even talk to them.

They own enough of him to tell Real Madrid where to go and dictate the transfer - I suspect Falcao would already be gone if it was up to the shady third party who allegedly own a percentage of him. Don't underestimate just how much Atletico hate Real Madrid, much like City and the rags. Atletico haven't sold them a player for over a decade and even then it was only because they got relegated. Unless Atletico are asset stripped because of their debts (unlikely) I think they will maintain their hardball stance with Real and besides either Chelsea or us will be there to give them what they want next summer. Maybe PSG too, an Ibrahimovic/Falcao partnership could be the best in the world.
