Interesting to see how he does at Newcastle. I think it's a bit unfair for him to say that mancini didn't give him a chance as Mancini gave him opportunities in his favoured advanced midfield role and Stevie just didnt' take them, though the lack of support comment seems a recurring theme. Bit risky saying that about Houllier seen as he's only at newcastle on loan?

STEPHEN Ireland has promised to prove his worth once again at Newcastle after being left out in the cold by both Roberto Mancini and Gerard Houllier.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined the Magpies on loan on Monday after finding himself surplus to requirements first under Mancini at Manchester City and then Houllier at Aston Villa, who paid £8 million for him just last summer.

He said: “It’s been very unfortunate to have two managers who didn’t really fancy me. They didn’t want me there, support me or even give me a chance.

“I didn’t have five or six games in a row in 18 months. You can’t work that way and be out for so long, and then expect everything at once.

“It’s been difficult. I haven’t played consecutively for five or six games, and hopefully I can do that here.

“It’s a massive relief to get away because I wasn’t playing.”

Ireland also revealed he will not be able to make his Newcastle debut for a month after consulting a specialist over his knee injury.

He said: “I saw a specialist the other day, and he reckoned it would be a month with my knee.

“But I have had an injection, so hopefully I will be able to do some heavy training. I’m very eager to go.”

Notice he was only decent when he was in the Elano,SWP,Robinho pass and move diamond.lol I wish him well .

I would agree but then he probably doesn't envisage playing under Houllier again!

Obviously not, but still?

He had chances under Mancini and he was desperately poor. It's a shame because nobody wanted him to succeed and rekindle his form more than us.

The harsh reality is that we have moved on from being able to give a player 6 or 7 games as a "chance". The competition at that point was high. If you didn't perform (Ade, Bridge, Stevie) you were out. Players who came in and did a job and didn't run their mouth in the press (Zab, Lescott) are still here.

Never been the same since he went down on his haunches in the centre circle.

He can try blaming everyone else for his lack of "chances" but the facts are that he's had 12 good months in his entire career.

He needs to move on and stop sounding like Moyes in every interview.
Wish him all the best at the nuthouse that is Newcastle-but he's history now.

Average premier league player at best.

One season wonder.....unfortunately for him, form is indeed temporary, and class is something he did not possess enough of, coupled with his poor mental state, he is indeed will me a average premier league player albeit earning thousands...so lets not shed too many tears

Well maybe he's only got eyes for the exit door from Villa Park, that's only explanation I find for his comments. He's gotta be seeking a permanent move somewhere. This loan spell could be quite defining.

Will Joey Barton pull Stevie's into line? Do I sense a potential mentor?!
