Sadly Steven Ireland is a complex individual.
When you consider his 'dead' grannies, his Martial Arts, his Pink Wheels, his claim to have more freedom now that Hughes has gone, his mysterious illness on the pitch, and his tremendous talent and potential to be the very best.
It is no wonder that Roberto believes he needs to change his head.
Perhaps it is time to move on and maybe Villa with his fellow Irishmen O'neill & Dunnie will be his escape with Milner coming the other way.

The guy is an absolute fruitloop.

Shame if he moves on, but this stinks of him having a good season and thinking he automatically deserves a place.

Ireland does deserve to start IMO. But he has to be fit and I don't think he was for much of last season. But that's not the root problem IMO.

IMO the problem with Mancini and Ireland is really a problem of Mancini and any playmaker. We have 3 forwards who pay with their heads down...Bellamy, Ade and Tevez. They all have great talent so I'm not saying they should go. But they need to look up or at least Mancini needs to figure out how any playmaker (Ireland or anyone else) can work with them.

Ireland can stay or go, Kaka can come or not. Gerrard, Milner, Arteta, whoever. Mancini needs to fix how we play or no player in Ireland's mould will work. Therefore I think the problem is less likely to be resolved by Ireland's head and more by Mancini's tactics/training.

Sad to hear if true. I was hoping he'd stay and try and give it a real go next season. If he does go im sure he'll do well - I just hope he doesn't go to the rags! I also hope we hold out for a decent fee and don't sell him on the cheap - must be valued at a minimum of £10 million. The last time he was supposed to be off to Sunderland he stayed and had a great season - maybe history can repeat itself!

His form was a joke before mancini got here, even Irelands BFF billy shears will tell you that, hence hughes being the one that basically said he won't play much in out current side. When given the opportunity by bob he has been a liability of the biggest kind, and in the position he excelled in two seasons ago to boot. Don't kid yourself, he believed his own hype and the inevitable was this outcome. He'll move on, have a belting 6 months somewhere else and that will be that for stevie boy.

I don't think that's totally fair - Mancini was more or less forced into a 4-4-2 last season. Ireland was the only creative midfielder he had, and to play him would have meant dropping Adebayor and leaving Tevez as an overly-short lone frontman.

I think we'll see much more coming from the middle this season, be it Ireland, Arteta, Hamsik or whoever.

Looks like Hamsik is a no go any more as Mancini said he is not in the Manchester City plans. I hope we do get a quality creative midfielder in this summer as we really need one.

Personally I see a pattern emerging....

Richards has brilliant season. Gets new 5 year deal, £50K a week form and performances go down the toliet.

Ireland has brilliant season. Gets new 5 year deal, £50K a week, form and performances go down the toliet.

Then the same sort of thing happens with Nedum (ok hes injured all the time).

Is it the clubs fault ? We bring through these brilliant home grown players then cant push them on to be world beaters and first team regulars like they do at Arsenal and it pains me to say it the rags.

Talk of Selling Nedum for £3 million is complete and utter fucking madness. What can you get for £3 million these days ? Fuck all.

£10 million for Ireland and similar for richards. Its like a bad dream a season or so ago these players were some of the most highly rate young up and commers in the league with £20 million plus valuations.

Personally I am in head in sand mode pretending its all rumours and we wont give they promising young players away for pennies to our main rivals in the league.

I fear the worst though based on what happened with Dunne last season.

We all know the script we sell these players for nothing they go on to be world beaters and their replacements end up being not as good....
