Stockholm

Gamla Stan is great. Some lovely places to eat and drink there. Pizza, for some reason, is very good in Sweden. There's also a very old German restaurant there, bloody lovely food.

Get the boat to see the Vasa, huge old ship that overturned in the harbour back in the olden days.

Just for a novelty value, check out the ice bar.

Djurgarden is also very nice. (get a shirt)

The royal palace is a nice place to wander around.

Apart from that...go exploring. It's a beautiful place to just wander around in. Lots of good shops, bars and restaurants. Try not to get hit by a tram.

Enjoy mate.

Our daughter has lived there for three years, we've been four times.

It is expensive £7.50-£8 a pint so be warned.

We did what everyone does, the Abba Museum... interesting but nothing over special. Skansen is a good day out and the Stadthueset tower is good, get a great panoramic view of the city.

The ice bar is "interesting" but..... for me it's a take it or leave it thing.

We will go back later this year we will probably try and visit sky view.... Otherwise as has been said its a great City to just wander around.

Enjoy!

Finally, get a 72 hour travel card, the 72 hours begin from the time you buy it. It's great, can use on boats, trams, busses, trains and under ground. Look for deals on line. Also buy your train tickets online from Arlanda (assume that's where you're going to) You get all kinds of offers...

Eat your greens.
Brush your teeth twice a day.
You're welcome.

Lots of places pop up in the summer, especially by the water or on rooftops.
Och himmeln därtil (maybe just called "himmeln" now) is a decent place to start the evening on Södermalm. It's at the top of the tax office building and gives views over the city.
Hallwylska and Historical are 2 museums are worth a visit, a bit different from the ususal tourist infested places.
Guided tours by boat are good if you're hung over but still want to feel like you're doing something.
The Vasa is worth the wait, or you can get there early.

ps: don't slap the Hipsters. They're like the pigeons in Trafalgar square, no one really likes tham but people get upset if you start chasing them.

pps: @BigJoe#1. Rules is rules (still in the EU)

@BimboBob Djurgarden is a club? I have a Hammarby shirt in my collection. A Swedish City fan introduced me to them. There's no matches on when I'm there but I'll visit the ground for sure.

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. My well travelled work colleague suggests a boat or bus tour ASAP and make a note of the places you'd like to go to as you pass through them.
