What wonderful forward thinking, current day planners could learn a lot from the Victorians.

Yeh it would have to rise 3 hundred feet ,the trains would be OK up there but ,the rest of Manchester would be like Atlantis
So lots more forward thinking imo haha

Just read that and the legal requirement for trains to stop at Stockport station is a myth, apparently. I thought there was a covenant on the bridge that required trains that passed over it to stop at Stockport station, rather than the Act of Parliament referred to on that Wiki page.

Growing up in Hazel Grove i saw it often when my mum would take me into town to go shopping and i just thought every town had one.
Only as i grew up did i start to look at it and think "wow that is pretty impressive".
