Stockport

I grew up in Manchester. Whilst Merseyway is a dump, I always thought Stockport had a lot of nice suburban areas such as Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall and Marple.

Manchester is ridiculously expensive to buy (over priced for what you get). There's a lot development going on around the Bus Station and the market square has been developed nicely with a lot of new bars etc. Quite a strong alternative for young adults with only an 8 minute fast train to Picadilly. Plenty of scope to develop or knock down Merseyway to improve the town centre.

I also find traffic is a lot more chilled out in the suburb areas, no matter what time of the week it is. As soon as you drive on to a main road in Didsbury or South Manchester in general and you hit traffic regardless of what time of the week it is, feels like driving in London.
It's more expensive in Miles Platting now than parts of Bramhall.

Used to go to Stockport to play snooker with a couple of my mates pretty much every week back in the day. Never had any bother, but it was literally the only place we'd go to there. Think it was called The Crucible club, just round the corner from the Town Hall. Not sure if it's still there, but I have nothing but good memories of that place.

As a kid in the late 70s we’d pass through Mersey Square bus terminal on a Saturday evening on our way back from fishing at Roman Lakes. Place was full of the weirdo buzzin blokes in blue nylon vests and women in skirts that looked like curtains. Years later realised what Northern Soul was all about.
