Stoke-on-Trent

Could be wrong but I think Port Vale are the oldest club in the potteries.
Not sure about that as I think Stoke are the 2nd oldest football league club behind notts county, I could be wrong, maybe port vale where founded before Stoke but joined the football league after them, possible

Trafford is in Greater Manchester.

Does that mean United come from Manchester then?

In your haste to be an internet warrior, you missed
Going off the same logic, Wigan are going to change their name to Manchester Athletic.

Then again your intention was purely to troll and be a ****.

I don't need maps. I'm just a clever bastard.

You're half right.

Soulboy said:
Glad you at least didn't bother arguing the toss about Scholes though.

It wasn't my intention to argue, I actually thought he was a Middleton lad. You steamed in with a big hard on having a pop. Have I fucked your mother or something ?

Soulboy said:
Otherwise you would have looked an even bigger tosser..

Oh I think it's obvious who the tosser is.

Best to limit your show of ignorance when you can...

I think I'll sink to your level now "Go and suck a dogs arse, you window licking prick"

Aren't you the brainbox that said Burnley is a city in an earlier thread?

And you think you can give me geography lessons?

Pah!

Just let it go... being offensive doesn't make you right.

In fact it proves my point.

Semantics my arse. Port Vale is a lot closer to the centre of Stoke than the Britannia and about the same distance as Stokes old ground.
Drury was talking out of his arse.

Well here's some more semantics. No way is Port Vale nearer to Stoke than the Britannia. You might argue it's nearer to Hanley which is the sort of centre these days. The true Stoke is further south and near the railway station and the old victoria ground. You can walk from Stoke station to the Britannia but there is now way you would walk from there to Port Vale.

You're spot on with that.

I lived in Stoke (town) for three years and I walked to the Briannia when we played there in a friendly in 2005.

I also saw us play Vale in a friendly and a testimonial and I would never have dreamt of walking to Vale Park.

However, my original point was that Stoke-on-Trent is not a one-club city.

And I totally agree with you on that.

There is only one Machester. THE City of Manchester... Or the REPUBLIC of Mancunia ;-) ... Trafford, Salford, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Bolton, Wigan all make up the massive urban sprawl of Greater Manchester but they are not THE one and only TRUE Manchester. End of!

Are those all towns that were eventually built right into the city? That's kind of happening with Stittsville and Ottawa now. Stittsville is pretty much linked with Kanata through Hazeldean road and around The Scotiabank Place. I'm not sure if it's an actual burrough of Ottawa yet though.

I thought Scholes was from Stretford? His old man was definitely. Not that it fucking matters like.

He was behind me in the queue in Sainsburys Ashton a while back. I couldn't believe how small the gobshite was

No, he's from Salford ;)

Indeed.

Quote:

Scholes was born at Hope Hospital in Salford, Greater Manchester, to parents Stewart and Marina Scholes. The family moved to Langley area of Middleton, Greater Manchester when he was 18 months old where he lived on Bowness Road, and later Talkin Drive.[9] He attended the St Mary's RC Primary School in Langley. The first team he played for was Langley Furrows despite being an Oldham Athletic supporter. Scholes also excelled at cricket. At age 14, he began training with Manchester United.[10] He then later joined as a trainee upon leaving the Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School in Middleton during the summer of 1991.[9] In his final term at school, he was selected to represent Great Britain National Schools in football.

Middleton is in manchester, i live there, the post code is m24 and the telephone code is 0161, if it was rochdale it would be OL and the phone code would be 01706.

scholes is a dick anyway everyone round here knows it. apart from united fans and hangers on that think the sun shines outta his arse, but to say he isnt a manc is ridiculous and totally clutching at straws.

All the towns around and Manchester have expanded over the years so there's little green space to tell where one ends and the others begin. Manchester and Salford have always been butted up against each other. Historically they were all separate entities which was somewhat muddied in the 70's when a region called Greater manchester was created for administrative reasons and encompassed not only many distinct towns but parts of 4 historical counties. Town pride has always been important in these parts and is partly the reason behind the bickering, most people from Salford I know insist on it's separate identity despite it only being separated by the width of the Irwell river (about 30 yards) from Manchester.
Old Trafford has always been outside the city of Manchester. Hope this helps.

ps the niceties of Ottawa's geography are totally lost on me, sorry :)

Bit of a weird one actually, cos i pay manchester council and langley seem to do that too, yet just looked on net and, even though i live the totally other side of middleton to langley, between the two areas seems to be rochdale council. strange. anyway ive never considered myself to be from rochdale, i was born in crumpsal, live in middleton and if anything im two mins away from oldham and about ten from manchester yet rochdale is further away than both!
Im a manc.

i don't like using it but:

Middleton is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, England.[1] It stands on the River Irk, 4.7 miles (7.6 km) south-southwest of Rochdale, and 5.1 miles (8.2 km) north-northeast of the city of Manchester. At the time of the United Kingdom Census 2001, Middleton had a population of 45,580.
Historically a part of Lancashire, Middleton took its name from being situated in the centre of several circumjacent settlements. Its early history is marked by its status as an ecclesiastical parish of the hundred of Salford, held successively by a series of notable ruling families. In 1770, Middleton was a village of 20 houses; during the 18th and 19th centuries it grew into a thiving and populous seat of textile manufacture, so much so that Middleton was granted borough status in 1886.
