Stoke post match thread

This game for me was the potential turning point.. it was a platform to face the big teams and be the main challenger for the title. By drawing tonight we're just one of the pack of teams behind in a dogfight for top 4. Very frustrating

Off day. Lack of chances created first half and poor finishing second half. Horrible line up but given fixture congestion and the games we have coming up kinda understandable.

Bad night of football for us in more ways than one as the title was always a long shot and I do believe we'll get top 4 ( I think 2nd). UEFA golden boys Barca going through is a blow as I believe we genuinely have a fighting chance against any team in that cup but I regardless of beating them already I do fear them the most.

That was not down to individuals, it was down to the team thinking they were good enough to win,
without putting the required effort in. For 60 minutes we offered absolutely nothing and you
cannot do that against anyone in this league. You need to be at it from the off.

Just a meh performance, there's a few every season. Unfortunate due to the fact we could have gone ahead of Spurs for second, but Chelsea ain't slipping up so forget about the title. Thought there would be more rotation Saturday rather than today but maybe Pep thinks the FA Cup is his best shot at silverware this season. Just frustrating because the line-up that Stoke put out was absolute shit.

Sane & Sterling have been bang in form, especially when they're linking up with eachother - I agree with posters who are disappointed in resting Raheem.

He's been our most consistent player all season and them two have particularly been on fire recently.

well, that was fuck up but looking what happened to PSG, I'd feel bad to throw any tantrum over it.

What an absolute tosser you are. You sound like an entitled Rag! This is a fella that we got for a bargain price. He has helped win two titles for us and a number of other trophies and been an absolute professional throughout. Not a minutes problem at any point. He wasn't the worst player on the pitch tonight. I am beginning to really despair at some of our so called fans. Give your head a wobble fella. Get a grip and listen to yourself.
Agreed! Navas on the other hand...

We were flat but I think people are creating a crisis out of nothing again, as I said in the match thread they were a back 6 at times even on a counter I saw 3 blue City shirts in their half and 8 still back in theirs. When teams are playing like that you could do with extra men in their half to catch them by surprise and keep them from getting comfortable by outnumbering us.

Simply put we could have done with some top attacking fullbacks to help us along to get that vital 1st goal, we don't have that... we haven't had many nights like tonight to put up with, any team in the world is capable of a flat performance... any talk that we haven't moved on/progressed as a team from the Pellegrini era shows a lack of basic understanding of football IMO.

Gods sake Pep, massive error resting Sterling and Silva, their professional athletes and Sterlings practically still a kid. All momentum from good run of games lost by that poor team selection and a tough March to follow, so frustrating!!!!

oh my god. a decent post with lots of common sense. +1. 0-0 against a very well organized team and some on here are having a meltdown.

He didn't do much wrong. Beat his man and put in a couple of decent crosses but as usual nobody much in the box.
yes he did put in some good crosses but that intelligence to get a favourable situation either by beating his man and venturing into the box or making a low pass after clever play rather than just hitting a cross into the box and hoping knowing that your CF isn't the tallest of guys is always lacking. The moment I saw Navestock on the team sheet, I thought, 'oh my God'. I'd much rather have Nolitone start

What about all the quality crosses Sane on the other side put in? They were pretty much all poor today. We have struggled to break teams down this season at home. So many winnable games not won even with our strongest team playing.

i wouldn't disagree...but navas has been doing the same thing since day one of his arrival...plus he cant take a man on and offers zero goal threat EVER!...he should never play for us again and I consider him extremely lucky to be still getting any game time....the drop off in quality is frightening when he plays..he wasn't the only poor one ( have said that in other posts) as KDB ferna were also really poor, Sane not much better either...the difference is that navas shouldn't be getting game time as its guaranteed that you get an ineffectual performance from him....
