Stoke vs. City Pre-Match Discussion Thread

The Britannia's such a difficult place to go. Stoke are in okay form and have just drawn with Spurs.

Think this match will be a really tough one. They'll play with ten men behind the ball and we'll have to be clinical.

A Johnson long-shot to open up the match would be nice like last time :-).

Their pitch is the smallest in the league I believe and we will need some width. I think this is a match for Johnson and Kolarov.

I'd play 1 of Dzeko or Balotelli as they pose an aerial threat and that could be useful in a match like this. Pizarro could also be very useful in this one.

Can't wait for Saturday.

i'd also be tempted to start Edin.

rags holding out that this will be a very hard game, whilst i agree it will be tough especially with our recent away form.

stoke this season are not the same propostion they came to our ground and it was like like the proverbial play ground bully left for high school and got bullied when he got there, so what im saying is united and other teams struggle because stoke are physical, but we're more physical than stoke if we have to be.

going for a 0 - 2 win

Milner for Silva who clearly isn't 100% and Dzeko for Balo,otherwise the same team,unless Kompany or Lescott are fit.

Their pitch is really small. We will need width.

I'd play Kolarov for the crosses. They'll be defending with 10 men anyway.

I'd play Pizarro so he can put Kolarov and Micah through on goal consistently.

I'd also play AJ because we will need the width he provides.

Edin or Balo for height please.

I'd prefer Tevez but he's not fit enough yet.

There's not enough movement up front, we end up just passing it aimlessly back and forwards in front of a packed defence, eventually a fullback gets up the pitch and crosses to...no-one.

Against Sporting and Chelsea we've been pretty poor up until we go 3 up front, suddenly we have options for the midfielders to pick, the opposition defence is stretched and the strikers can get the ball into feet and combine with each other. It's all very well playing Silva drifting in, narrowing the play when he's on form/fit, but he's not.

Get a bit more direct, they'll pack the defence, we need to create holes, we need bodies in the box for when the full-backs get up.

Kolarov and Dzeko are certainties to start but maybe our more mobile forwards would be best against Stoke's defence. Too soon for Carlos to start, but he could be a key player off the bench

Has everyone forgotten the cup final against Stoke when Mario was bossing the game?

That pitch is small and there is not much room to breathe. If Edin plays and his touch is shit, he will effectively be passing the ball to the Stoke players.
