Broadcaster Stuart Hall charged with rape
The presenter was arrested after attending a police station by appointment
Broadcaster Stuart Hall has been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault, Lancashire Police have said.
Mr Hall, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, was arrested on Tuesday after attending a police station by appointment.
The rape is alleged to have been of a 22-year-old woman in 1976.
The indecent assault offences are alleged to have been committed between 1967 and 1986 and involve 10 girls aged between nine and 16.
Mr Hall has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Preston on 7 February.
A Lancashire Police statement said: "Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service an 83-year-old man has this evening been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault."
Mr Hall is best known for his sports reporting on BBC Radio 5 live - as well as his work on the 1970s show It's A Knockout.
The broadcaster has been a familiar face and voice in British broadcasting for half a century and became an OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and charity.

He used to train at Sids in Stalybridge and he used to join in with us schoolboys from West hill at 5 a sidein the late 70's.I remember tackling him hard and him falling to the floor. I just wished i'd kicked the paedo **** hard in the head now!

Actually he has but he hasn't yet been found guilty.

Looks like his number's up now ...... he could get a long stretch for all those alleged offences , if found guilty ...... and at his age that will, almost certainly , be his lot.
I'm very surprised by this , you would never have suspected someone like Stuart Hall of possibly being involved in anything such as this , he's always been such a jovial character .... but it now looks ominous for him , and that a jury will decide his fate .

General (genuine) question... is there a difference between being charged with as offence as opposed to being prosecuted for an offence??
