Stuart Pearce

The Samaras signing was the beginning of the end for him. He kept going on about him being young and having potential but you dont spend 6 million on potential when you haven't got a pot to piss in!! We were desperately lacking a proven goalscorer.
not justifying Samaras, but when your own captain has bets on you not scoring and refuses to pass to you in goalscoring situations then he hardly had a fair crack.

Great player but a terrible manager. He produced some dreadful football when he was in charge.

Putting James up front when we needed a goal summed him up. James plainly couldn't play football but Pearce just showed his intensely limited thinking, although it was funny watching James goon about for a bit.

One thing I always thought about him was that he came across as plain thick. When I hear Pep, Klopp, Ferguson...jeez even the likes of Dyche and Bruce I can understand what they are trying to do and understand what they might be saying to their players. With Pearce I get the feeling that the feeling his team talk would be along the lines the " come on give 110 percent like the three lions" type of garbage. Probably screaming in their faces and telling them about Cloughie etc.

How he was given England U21s is beyond me.
I wonder what position we’d finish under Pearce with our current squad? Although to be fair putting Ederson up front when chasing a goal for European qualification would perhaps be a masterstroke

Those games he took over from Keegan in his first season were amongst my favourite as a City fan, I was very young and it was the first time I'd ever seen us look like achieving something.

Then I'd convinced myself we were gonna win the FA Cup in 05/06...should have known better.

In 05/06 we were 9th with 10 games left and only 4 points off 5th. Then we lost 9 of the final 10 games.

06/07 was my worst season as a City fan...and I dearly hope it always will be. Regardless of results, first and foremost you want to ENJOY watching your team but we were SO dull it was unbelievable.

His cheaper signings were the better ones. Hart is the obvious one, but Ball, Mpenza and Hamann were all useful free transfers. He also gave opportunities to many academy players - Richards, Ireland, Johnson, Sturridge, and then some of the less successful ones, Miller, Croft, BWP.

I guess when you look at his reign overall, he didn't do too badly, but, because of that drab final season, I struggle to remember him with any fondness at all.

It doesn't bear thinking about does it :D

In all honesty if he did have this squad I think the football would be very different. Delap probably would play up front on his own like Mpenza or Samara's and we'd be launching hopeful balls into his neck so that he could try to lay it off. Midfield would see Rodri, Gundogan, Fernandinho and of course Doyle and Foden as they are 3 lions players haha!!

Wed score about 48 goals all season and finish 12th and he would be delighted with it!!

Just been watching a documentary about SP on Bein after the Spurs game (probably been on BT or Sky before). Very interesting. But that David James decision still baffles the fuck out of me. And he still thinks the 'boro game wouldn't have turned out differently if he'd made a conventional substitution. The only thing he admits to fucking up on is not giving James enough instructions before pushing him up front. Pearce wanted him to play the battering ram role, but James tried to be a ball playing no. 10. A real "Jesus wept" episode in our history.

I think samaras had lovely hair. He was popular amongst the ladies of our parish, who maybe wern't so concerned about his goalscoring attributes.
At the time we had some truely shocking footballers, but george wasn't one of them. From what I can remember he always put a shift in, and scored a few. I think he moved to celtic and managed a few for them as well. Fond memories none the less.

48 goals in a season under Psycho ? You're being a bit optimistic there ! Lol.

Samaras had the potentially to be a great player. Seem to recall him getting a lot of stick for not being "one of the lads" and smashing 15 pints of lager with Richard Dunne.

Did well before City and after City. No real hatred for the guy.

This is definitely my favourite part of the story - David James thinking that the manager stuck him up top because of his excellent technical skill and not because he was a lanky twat
