Here we go. There are too many players coming in, imo, for immediate "success". These guys are going to need to get to know one another, and how each other plays. Hughes and Bowen have to facilitate this, but with the greatest of respect to both, I'm not at all sure they'll be able to make them all gel instantly. I fear a 'worse than expected' season from start to finish and a continuation of Hughes Out threads. .
I agree with this first few months may not be the best but as the players get to know each other we will improve top 6 was the target and still is. A cup would be a lovely bonus.
The outers won't give that initial period to allow the team to gel they seem to think it's instant well sorry it aint. I remember 88-89 first 4 games we got 2 points we got tanked at home by Oldham there where calls for Mel Machin to be given the boot. Next 4 games maximum 12 points where gained suddenly we where in the top 4 and yes be it very dramatic we clinched promotion in the last few minutes of the final game that year. IMO October onwards is when we will be able to tell and too be honest I think it's gonna be a great season.
Mr Al Muberak and our owner have been fair and reasonable enough to write off last season as a settling in period for Hughes. Even though we have added to the squad, most of the players will have had plenty of time to settle.
They have said top six is the target for this season and with the squad we are building it is easily achievable considering we should have qualified for Europe last season. As for the domestic cup competitions, we have just as good a chance as anybody of winning something.
The underlying message is top six or we part company and that is more than fair. Ancellotti at Chelsea will have similar demands put on him relatively speaking irrespective of who he brings in. Why should Hughes be treated any different?
For us there will be no 56-game season, no fixture build-up very few midweek games and a squad good enough and big enough to keep things nice and fresh.
There will be no excuses. But you can bet your life that if we are 7th,8th,9th come April/May there will still be people on here making excuses having a go at the 'Hughes outers' as they call them.
This club that we all love is being run better than I have ever known. They are ambitious but realistic at the same time and they have a totally different mindset regarding the future of Manchester City F.C.
Bring it on!! I say. I'm up for the ride and when times are tough it's time to get tough with the times.
There are still many of our fans I feel do not appear to have shifted up a few notches when it comes to ambition and mindset.
If they choose not to change, this club will leave them behind and they will be better off supporting Wigan or Bolton.
