For some one married to a 'secular Jewish Lady' it would appear that you are unaware of hamas and their 'insignia' as you call it. The 'headband' is no such thing. Most Arabs wear a shamag on their heads, Palestinians have a tendency to wear a black and white shamag and Europeans tend to wear one as a scarf to show support for the Palestinians and not hamas. When I lived in Bahrain they wore red and white and when with the Omani army ours was dark green. Quite surprised you didn't know that.
