I think that the time has come for us to spend big in the summer on 2 central defenders. I think that Dunne has been fantastic for the club and will go down as one of our legends but I think he is struggling to live up to the new expections.
Nedum has shown promise this season and I would like him to be first choice back up for our two new centre backs. If we can bring in top quality defenders it will only improve Nedum as he will be able to learn from them and develop his game.

I would be happy with Zabaleta at right back. Richards I would class similar to Nedum - needs to learn from the best to become a top player.

Left back I would be happy to keep Bridge for the time being if Petrov plays in front him and and actually tracks back!

Kompany and De Jong can protect the back four and the rest can go out and win the games.

Neds done nothing wrong, see no reason to drop him. 1 Centreback and 1 Rightback for me.

Alves is a good shout. He and Ned could be our version of Terry and Carvalho.

Needs to look around when he's passing back to the keeper though...

I agree mate that he's not done anything wrong but he's still learning his game. A couple seasons as an understudy to somebody like Puyol or Terry would do his game the world of good.

Don't wanna be miserable but would Agger come to a club not in Europe?

Agger is quality and he'd be the perfect buy

heres what we need imo for next season, the little star things mean replacements:

I don't know, i think he'd be better off actually playing beside someone of that calibre every week. You gain experience by playing matches. I actually think he's the best reader of the game we currently have in defence, his positioning is generally top notch.

Glen Johnson-----Georgio Chiellini-----Jolean Lescott-----Wayne Bridge

GJ- by far the best Englsih right back and will be England's right back for years to come! Pompeys biggest asset and he's still only 25 i think and if we offered enough money or money+Richards we could well nick him in time before any of the top clubs (who i think all need a decent right back) sign him!

GC- a bruiser, a John Terry / Nemanja Vidic, no nonsense, smash through the back of you, will score from and defend well at corners type of defender, he's rapid and i think he's only 23!

JL- said this season he enjoys centre back more than left back, would be the perfect compliment to GC (you should always have a bruiser and a nice footy player as partners in centre back positions) as he can pass well, run with the ball, score goals, he's quick and still only 26!

WB- needs a bit more time to settle into our squad, he's still getting used to playing week-in-week-out i think, at 29/30 i think we'll get a good 2 seasons from him!

Great reply, PD!! There's a Hughes type mentality on this thread! Perplexing reasoning!

I'd actually purchase a quality left back (Taiwo, anyone?), a quality centre back and a quality right back. I'd also buy an out and out left winger, same in a right winger and a good centre forward.
