Sunday Herald (Scotland) Article on City

Great article 'AB'.

I have spent many a holiday up in Ayr/Prestwick area by the way and met a number of local City fans who only spoke good of our club ...... which is more than they did of the rags!

There's some good points in the article, I do wish though that people in genereal would get there fact's right!

Eg: De Jong - Saying we could of had him for 2m or contract was expiring in 6 months
Barry - More of the same rubbish.

It's just lazy and makes the journo's look as clueless as they already are!

Not a bad article, however I have a few issues.

1 - There's no point having a World Class starting 11 and then mediocre support players. A couple of injuries and you're left starting players who aren't of the required standard. THAT'S why we've got 5 forwards fighting for, at most, 3 spots.

2 - De Jong WASN'T going to be free in 6 months, he was either goingto sign for City for £17m or he was going to renew his contract at Hamburg, and therefore cost in the region of £17m in the Summer.

3 - I don't really see £12m for a proven England International midfielder as being excessive, yes he only had 12 months left on his contract but he wasn't goign to see it out and be free, and we needed to get him before Liverpool got their arses in gear and made an offer as well.

"Sheikh Mansour, thus far, has been good for football"

first time I've heard that in the media

brilliant post and article, what a great write up. cheers mate

It is ironic that Gabriele Marcotti is quite a sensible and astute sports journalist, hence why he's given an excellent, balanced write up on a high profile subject. Retards writing for the red tops please take note!

It's easy to lampoon City and, when it comes to the forwards, they do deserve it. But you can see the outlines of a serious squad - a legitimate top-four contender, maybe more - beginning to form. Sure, they're using money to buy success. But that's what most traditionally big clubs have always done. What rankles people is that City seem to be gatecrashing. They'll just have to get over it.

Sheikh Mansour, thus far, has been good for football.
Nail on the head, cheers for this mate,a little surprised by it ,TBH.
