Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Pathetic performance. Took until the 88th minute to show some urgency. Players should hang their heads in shame for waiting until the end to start showing some fire

Congrats to Arsenal on winning the title. We're not good enough to stay with them. They're different class to the rest of the league.
Long, long way to go. Four points is fuck all with half of the season still to play.

Not our night. Wonder whether there is any flu in the camp because there were a few lethargic performances. Created enough to win just needed a bit more focus. Sunderland battled hard for each other.

Bring on the second half of the season. Rodders and Doku will have a big part to play so hope they came through unscathed

Clean sheet and Rodri the only real positives. Hopeless from an attacking perspective, although Savinho scores and we probably win the game.

Phil and Erl very poor. Gvardiol very good and I thought Ake had a good game.

We were also treated to the usual refereeing oddities. Sunderland were definitely allowed to be more than just physical. How that fucker wasn't booked for the sliding challenge on Doku, and then Ake receives a yellow immediately after for something far less severe.

Bernardo's goal appeared to be correctly ruled out, although noticed some in the match day thread question this.

Great to have Rodders back. His passing and moving us forward so much better than the other options. Not a dig at Gonzalez as the lad has been superb and without him in there we would have been really struggling.

A couple of players, including NOR look like they need a breather, but no idea when they will get one.

Onwards and upwards.

Took us a while to understand that the referee was allowing shirt pulling, arms around and basic shit-fuggery. Sorted in the second half and we did the same, but became difficult against a side that worked so hard.

And, honestly, who would be looking forward to Sturridge and Micah?

Thanks, Sky, but get fucked!

Ake looks like he's running in treacle.. He's really slowed down.. Shame as he's been great for us..
We created a few chances but nothing like clinical enough tonight.
Erling was anonymous but he didn't get any service either apart from the one he normally scores from.
Great to see Rod back.. Need to beat the chavs on Sunday.. Play the fucking kids against Exeter and rest the players who look fucking knackered.
Arsenal will drop points too.. It's definitely not over by a long chalk.
Not as slow as Dias.

Tough point away against a frustrating side.

A few things that annoyed me:

The 'offside' goal - Very tight, they took their time finding a frame to 'prove' he was off. I'm sure they could have equally found a frame that proved the opposite.

Haaland hauled down in the penalty area - completely glossed over.

Foul on Gvardiol in the penalty area as he got his shot away, again, completely ignored.

Lots of niggly little off-the-ball fouls ignored.

Plus points - Doku and Rodders back.

Got Brighton as well

Don’t know what some of you were watching but that was absolutely wank.

When you come here you know what you’re getting. An old fashioned, rugged, meat and potatoes opponent. You have to fight, snarl, hustle, and blag your way through it. Too many of them today were far too nice and lacked bollocks, Haaland being the worst for it.

We are absolutely fucking desperate for Semenyo. We had fuck all goal threat on the bench there today. No goalscorer.

Brilliant to see Rodders back though. Huge positive.

4 points is nothing to worry about at this stage but the signs are there that we have little room for error and need to add to the squad this window.

Ah now I know why we didn't win. All the partners of the moaning fannie wipes have got together and contacted the first team asking them to draw a game so that the bluemoaners can vent their pent up whining since we last dropped a point.

Thank you to all the blues who sounded in great voice at a very cold away ground. Great practice for Bodo Glimt.

Foden, Haaland, Savinho. O Reilly, Nunes Cherki and Ake all hopeless tonight

The only poor performances of those you've mentioned, by their own standards, are O'Reilly Haaland and Foden.

Two of the others whom you mentioned (Ake and Nunes) were the best players on the pitch. Cherki and Savinho were both fine too, though Savinho should have scored.

Apart from the result really enjoyed that, like a cup game, fair play to Sunderland and their really loud support, felt we had the chances to win it after getting more grit and determination second half. Plus points Rodri looked really good and while some players wilted others stood up to the challenge.

Donna nunes dias ake Gvardiol bernie rodri doku all showed they had balls

Haaland, Foden, gonzalez and rudy need to grow a pair.

Would rest both Nicos for Chelsea. Thought Savio played well right up to the most important part.

Thought the lads worked hard against a team still on a high from promotion.
Could have scored a few in the second half when Sunderland ran out of energy and crowded their box. Our luck wasn't in.

I havent seen Sunderland play this season, how do they put that much effort in each game ? Very fit side.

Plus side Rodri is back and looked good, we created chances.

Side seem to be allowed to be alot more physical this season and we struggle with that side of the game

First half is one to forget. 2nd half much better, Lots of chances created and their keeper made 3 great saves. Gvardiol unlucky on a couple of occasions, thought he was impeded for the header. Haaland should have scored in first half and probably would on another day. Savinho despite having a decent game, missed the easiest chance of the game. He doesn’t really help himself I’m afraid. Still, he looked much better than Foden tonight.
Foden, Cherki and O’Reilly well below par, didn’t create much at all and meant Erling was hardly involved. Sunderland had loads of effort but not much more for me, despite what the commentators would have you believe.
On the plus side, good to see Rodri back.
