Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We waited until the 2nd half before we made any serious attempts to even score a goal. Very disappointing to see us coming out playing so cowardly against a newly promoted side in the middle of a title race.

We perhaps could have won it in the end but its hard to win games if you wait half the game before you start playing football.

Not good enough today, and considering we have already played poor on many occasions earlier this season we have left us with little room to drop points against poor teams. Especially the same gameweek as Arsenal destroys the other top3 team in the league.

Great second half just didn’t get that little be of luck we needed. Thought there was a foul in box on Josko right at end but never replayed. Sunderland is a tough place to get a win, there’s a reason they haven’t lost one yet.
Yes, he was court on the ankle just before he tried to head the ball and that is why he couldn't direct the ball.

Hell of a place to go , Sunderland played like their lives depended on it and fans screaming for everything even pinching one yard at a throw in ! City of 2/3 years ago would still have put them to bed but not quite there yet and to be fair it wasn't a bad team we're trying to match is it.

Spot on

Also, over Christmas and a late kick off and their fans pumped up, so we had to dig deep at times
I think at the halfway point of the season we would have taken 2nd and 4 points behind

Weren’t you saying earlier this team would piss it against Chelsea and Semenyo can stay at Bournemouth?

Well he will be ...... we've put Arsenal in the box seat again by us dropping points tonight, it's out of our hands.

And beating Arsenal at home won't be any piece of cake.
You do know this is Arsenal you're talking about who don't know how to win the league when in said box seat?
They are known as bridesmaids FC for a reason.

Half a season left, let's see how they handle it.

I think tonight shows that we should have been rotating a player in each game rather than flogging the same 11 every 3 days. Before even getting to the injuries there have been players who look exhausted physically and mentally for weeks. Both Nicos gone down now and it's not without warning as they've looked knackered for a while now. The best 11 is clear to see but there's no reason we couldn't have been making use of marmoush and RAN before they left.

In all of our previous title winning seasons we have been so good at rotating the squad to keep us fresh whilst klopp ran his teams into the ground resulting in them trailing off and yoyoing in quality every other season. We are flirting with that the way we are going.

I know the response will be "squad's not as good as it used to be". But we need to start figuring out how to use what we have got or rodri will be back out, nunes will drop, and god forbid haaland goes down.
Absolutely agree with this. The problem at the moment is the players who have not played much look pretty rusty. Ake looked well off the pace but I am sure he would improve with more game time. Savinho did lots of good things amd was unlucky not to score with the chance the keeper saved with his foot. He should have done better with other chances though.

It was a bit of a weird day across all the Prem matches - only two goals in the four games played today.

Two teams defended well, our keeper made a couple of decent saves, they made lots of blocks. Fair result, and not a bad one for us, even if we were a bit unfortunate. I thought we were the better team overall, but they battled hard for a result.

Annoys me how these teams throw themselves to the floor so often (see Forest), getting the fans to sing "you're not fit to referee" trying to influence him, I think he's often shit, but for the most part tonight he managed things well.
