Sunderland Away - Where to park?

I usually park in the industrial estate not far from the ground, it's pretty well signposted as you head to the Stadium - then a free shuttle bus runs to and fro every few minutes before and after the game.

Not the quickest getaway though, but their lot are usually friendly enough on the bus

There is a multi story car park in the centre (Name escapes me) 15-20 mins walk to the ground but easy to get away from

parked there myself, then over the bridge to the ground.

Thanks people, looking at it there are two:

St Mary's and The Bridges shopping center.

St Mary's is closer to the bridge.

Which one is best to use, mainly for getting away?

Complete shit hole anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the place.. chances are you'll return with your car on bricks! Enjoy :P

Stadium of Light Metro Station. About 5 minutes from the ground. £4 last year and if you turn right as you come out its easy to get away from

doubt that'll be the best place to park on boxing day!!!

Up the A19 to A1231 turn off just before Sunderlands only employer, Nissan(Wessington Way).
That will take you to the north end of the Stadium and once you see ground, park up off main road and walk. City are in North Stand upper this season!
More chance of getting a couple of flat tyres from heroin needles than any fucker knicking it.

Thats the best way in. Avoid the city centre. Full of mongs.

The last time I went to the SOL by car (2 seasons ago) the Multi Storey near the ground is free on Sundays so I guess it will also be free on public holidays. I've parked there in the past and it's as good as anywhere else to get away from, but only a 10 minute walk from the stadium. It's worth checking out.

Parking at the Mcdonalds is what we usually do. Go for a pint or 2 after and wait for everything to settle down with traffic then head back

If thats the one over the road on the retail park, you may have a job parking there now, as Tesco are building a new supermarket & its one giant building site currently.

There's a new car on the old vaux site, which is a few minutes walk away

....and for those calling the place a shithole, there was a reason 'Shameless' was set in Manchester ;-)

Hi lads.

There is the park and ride which has been mentioned by another poster. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole as unless you leave early you can end up waiting for a long time to get a bus (once took me an hour!!).

Another option is St Mary's car park, and I would recommend this. It's about a ten to 15 minute walk to the ground from there. It's just on the south side of the river, and on boxing day I believe it's a £1 for unlimited parking all day.

There is also parking very near the ground which is free on the industrial estate to the south of the ground. This I would avoid as the fans all walk back this way and you really have to wait until they've all passed (20 minutes or so) or you risk being shouted at by people angry you're driving through the crowds!

Sunniside is another car park which is slightly further from the ground, but it has the advantage of being attached to a casino and cinema if either of those things interest you. It's about 5 minutes further away than St Mary's, again, you should find it on google maps easily.

The city centre is fine to drink in, even wearing colours in most places. The football ground guide gives a good report. http://www.footballgroundguide.com/sunderland/

I would also recommend the colliery tavern, which is just off the east stand and about a two minute walk from the ground. For away fans it's literally a 5 minute walk to get from there to the North Upper where you're situated.

I hope you find this info helpful and if you have any other questions I'll try and get on in the next couple days to respond.

Enjoy the game

Good lad Adam ....

thanks for that info , mate.

Sunniside car park is normally quieter than the other 2 main ones. Debenhams and St Mary's. If you park in there and it's not Bank holiday rates then just buy a coffee from Franky and bunnies and they will stamp your ticket. So in theory you could park all day for £1.65
