Sunderland (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Would love to know how many times we passed to Donnarumma in open play compared to earlier games this season. It felt like a lot, lot less than usual?
I heard a commentator say at some point “Donnarumma still hasn’t touched the ball with his hands” suggesting he hadn’t had anything to do.

Definitely wasn't a convincing performance but will 100% take the 3-0 win nonetheless

Gigi - Saved the big one that could have changed the game.
Nunes - Solid but didn’t do too much down the line. Kept mistakes to a minimum.
O’Reilly - Got down the line, and inside, quite well. Some lovely touches hugging the sideline. Shanked his shot.
Dias - Almost cost us. Sometimes a bit overconfident, but glad he kept a bit for his Kompany moment!
Gvardiol - less errant passing was a plus after a couple of sketchy games, and the bullet header was outstanding.
Bernardo - Once again, the Castrol GTX that keeps the engine purring.
Gonzales - Quiet and assured. He has REALLY grown into the position. Glad he tried a pop in the second half because he’s got a shot on him.
Foden - Brilliant effort all around, capped off by an outstanding goal, which I’m pretty sure he meant to go in the right bottom corner, not the top left!! Tireless worker. Back to his best.
Cherki - We have all seen it. Now the world will. Superlative in and around the box. Too bad Erling didn’t give him a second unbelievable assist!
Doku - Tireless work up and down the line and unlucky not to get a goal. Working on a very good understanding with NOR.
Haaland - Quiet game. Should have scored from Cherki’s chip.

Overall, our quality and persistence in our game created a strong performance against a potential banana skin that almost no-one would have said was ridiculous.

They are a well organized unit, but not a quality team. They have a few individuals that can compete, but not 7 to 11 of them.

Very professional performance that illustrates how well we are coming together. After the Leeds and Fulham games, this was just what the Doctor ordered.
Like the review. On Gonzales he has had a very good game, generally superb this season.

One thing about the shot you writting - had all the time in the world, this attempt should not been blocked under any circumstances. On the other hand though, few minutes earlier Nico made a crucial and very tough intervention after Xhaka hit the post.

They sang "Where were you when you were shit?".

3rd division average attendance for Sunderland was 17,000 and our average in the 3rd division was 27,000, wind your necks in you fake Geordie drop shorts :)
Please don't hate on me here, you have probably read it the facts wrong somewhere but sunderland averaged 30,800 in their last season in league 1 matey and 32,000 in 18/19 which they hold the record for highest attendance in that division.

Way too much positivity for on here.

Cherki won't be 30 until 2033.

You wouldn't have caught Gerry Gow faffing about like that.

Nowhere near that number, their last 3rd division attendances are pretty clear.

Sheff W v Sheff U is the record attendance for the 3rd tier - 49,309 in 1979.

Sunderland's records are "modern day" records. If you go back to the 30's and post-war period, crowds in all divisions were at an all time high.
