Sunderland Thread | 2025/26

Unbelievable season and it's ridiculous their manager hasn't been spoken about more.

Bournemouth have had praise from all corners and their manager has been linked with a number of other jobs - they got 3pts more!

Considering it was all about survival to qualify for Europe is incredible.

Just hope it doesn't do to them what it did to Forest where their league form goes to shit as a result of the extra games.

There's no doubt Sunderland have had a fantastic season, but there a number of reasons why the Mackems may be worried about maintaining it next year.
  • Data suggests they massively over achieved this season (18th on expected points (xPTS), and similarly if you adopt the adage "in general, one goal equates to one point over a season")
  • The "second season syndrome"
  • The potential double hinderance of qualifying for the Europa League; will the squad be able to cope with the extra games; will the additional revenue earned in the competition outweigh the reduction (from 85% to 70%) in the new Squad Cost Ratio?
