Sunderlands Goal

think given should've cleared the ball quicker from the back pass just before the goal he almost got caught out which rattled the shape of the play !!

This definitely. I am sure this is partly why Malbranque and Jones were effectively free to do what they did. Was a great cross and header though and I wouldn't blame Given at all for not saving the header.

i think zabaleta should of backed up Richards by tucking in behind him goal side and stopping him from cutting inside.instead as usual he jumped in forceing Richards to then back off.
I think that is spot on.
I initially blamed Zab and Richards but now you mention it Zab getting too actively involved made it easy for him to cut inside.
You can't always stop a greta header like that but you should stop the easy cross

Definetly not Given faulf for the goal, It was poor defending from Micah Richards, and Jones was just left unmarked in the box, The only fault I would have of Shay Given yesterday was his kicking because it was crap as it has been for the last few weeks, He has to learn to do better even at the age of 33.

Said this yesterday. I don't know what Given thought he was doing but he ended up panicking and giving the ball away, as he does too often. But Zab and Richards should have done better with the original cross and Kompany was rooted to the spot for Jones' header.

90% of goals come from a mistake somewhere.

The cross shouldnt have been allowed to come in (Mr Richards proving again that he is no RB!) and then VK should not have been out-muscled and
out-jumped by Jones.

All this said, it was a cracking header guys!

Given had no chance IMO and wasnt at fault, it was way too far out to come and collect, plus it was the wrong angle for a keeper and also came in at too great a speed.

first the winger wasn`t closed down quick enough, the centre halves were ball watching. the header was unstopable from where given was to be fair.

glad to see our players all remained focus on our goal of top four finish by going to las vagas!!! we cant have a winning mentality if our players don t have the winning lifestyles... were like the liverpool team of the mid 90`s.

I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE IS MAKING NOTES!!!!! seriously,a lads holiday at the end of the season would be fine....its not like bridge, swp and richards are knocking on cappello`s door for world cup places !!!!
we cant talk about winning as a club unless we back up with drastic changes!!!

IT STARTED from Givens poor, yet again clearance his kicking is the worst in all divisions

Mancini acknowledged after the game that they knew Malbranque would always look to cut back onto his right foot to center. If that's the case then the 2 full backs cocked it up bigtime to allow him to get the cross in. Micah should have been forcing him outside rather than letting him inside.

Once the cross came in neither Vinnie nor Shay can be blamed

spot on...all this running with the player crap ??

Get the boot in ffs Micah....you're built like a shithouse....dont act like one.

Zab should of pressed him down Richards had the flank covered it was Zabs job to close him down but just stood there watching on, oh well they can only learn no point dwelling about it now.

Our fullbacks dont stop crosses coming in, full stop and with Shay rooted to his line and never leaving the 6 yard box it causes danger but we need fullbacks who block crosses. Pains me to say it but look at Neville at Utd, he will run through a wall to block a cross coming in.

who cares,my point was these guys are on top pay and seem to be in the clouds regarding taking the club forward, now ,we are going in the right direction. but the attitude sucks from some of these so called professionals!
even thou to be fair i m glad the guys took bridge away for a break.

Richards is shite, he was about ten yards off Malbranque when he got the ball.
He does it every game he plays at RB ,nowhere near good enough for the next level.
Given rooted as usual

Are you implying given should have come for the cross? If so that's ridiculous given that Jones was about 12 yards out and the cross came from just outside the corner of the box.

If not you must be whinging because he didn't dive, but then the as usual bit doesn't make sense.

Agreed Richards and Zab should of stopped Malbanque getting the cross in and Vinnie should definately of been closer to Jones ....

agree, the cross should have never been allowed to have come in.

Richards and Zab but I think mthat Riuchards had held him up and with Zab coming back to make it 2 on 1 he should have taken the ball off malbranque. It was a pretty crap challenge from Zab
