I have watched a few films lately that I wouldnt normally have bothered with but they have been on Channel 4 over the last few Sundays so thought i'd give them a go. Watched The Reader, 127 Hours and tonight watching The Ghost. All been really good and films I would reccomend them all.

Anyone else know any films that have been surprisingly good?

I took my lad to see X-Men First Class at the cinema last year and was pretty blown away by it. I'd never watched an X-Men film before and I've made a point of watching the others since, although I've found them pretty disappointing tbh, so this prequel is pretty much a one-off imo.

Michael Fassbender is incredible as Erik Lehnsherr. The scene below in the bar in Argentina is one of the most powerful I've ever seen.

Kevin Bacon is also excellent especially in his first scene in the concentration camp office. The music was excellent and the effects superb. I only found out afterwards that Matthew Vaughn directed this movie which explains a great deal.

It doesn't happen that often but when a film totally exceeds your expectations it makes it even more enjoyable.

Yeah, i've never really fancied the X-Men films, but i downloaded First Class and gave it a whirl and ended up really liking it, which was a nice surprise.

I've just watched the clip and defo gona have to watch this, looks really good. I like Matthew Vaughn as he did Layer Cake which was top. Keep an eye out for a film called Fish Tank (if you havent seen it already) Fassbender is in that too and he plays a really good character and it's a gritty british film.

Fassbender is definitely a rising star.

Trail of the Screaming Forehead.

B-Movie mickey-take, incredibly funny. On SyfyHD occasionally.

After.Life

Christina Ricci wakes up on a slab in a morgue. The mortician, Liam Neeson, tells her she died and he has a gift to talk to the recently deceased. Is Neeson really a deranged killer, or is Ricci just fighting against the realisation that she has passed on? One of the few films I didn't suss until near the end, really kept me guessing. Also on Sky a lot atm, usually SyfyHD.

Repo! A Genetic Opera

A modern musical, but I really love it, so much I bought the blu ray and have to watch it at least once every 6 months. Starring Paris Hilton, Anthony Head, Alexa Vega and Sarah Brightman. Sounds weird I know, but an excellent cyberpunk film that is fast becoming a cult classic. Don't be put off by Hilton either, she plays a spoilt drug addict brat - not a stretch for her I know, but makes it easier viewing. She also doesn't sing more than a couple of lines.
