Read a post on here last night and it's beginning to sink in.

Our owners spent 10 years' money in 4 years because of FFPR coming in. Gary Cook persuaded them to do this arguing, correctly, that we needed to get into the CL and quick.

Now that has been achieved the big spending stops. The business model buzzword is sustainability... to be achieved long term with the odd affordable signing. This will be aided in the long term by the academy.

We are no longer following the Chelsea model.

That's why I believe that we brought in Hargreaves and Pizarro....the mega signings will be one per season once we have shifted the deadwood.

Players like RSC and Savic are still here and, if they go tomorrow, its too late for this window.

It hasn't been a fuck up. It's a business plan. We've forked out more money keeping Mancini and Kompany and hopefully Silva than most clubs have on new signings.

It may or may not work but I think the penny has dropped for me. The blow them out of the water days have gone for the forseeable future. If I had known I'd have enjoyed it even more then.

Like most businesses...there is a plan. Just not as exciting as it has been.

I don't think there is a £40 million signing waiting to be unveiled tomorrow. Sorry....I hope I'm wrong.

P.S. I know this isn't as exciting as seeing DDR in the chippy :-)

I wouldn't think you're too far off the mark with all of what you say. In trying to deal with FFP, I think we can be a little more hardball over the transfer fees we accept for our outgoing players. Many fans feel we are not getting true value whatever the individual details of each particular player's deal / wage savings etc.

Might be a bit knee jerk to say that now but tbh it does looks that way

However, selling a valuable asset for 3.5m is piss poor business.

A good post Cobwebcat and there lies the truth. If we had a better manager like Mancini at the beginning then we could have a bit of leeway now. It will get better, and there will be pressure on our new CEO but in my opinion he will do a great job.

If you think back to Khaldoons OS interview the day after we won the League,he did kind of hint that money would not be thrown about,as we had done in previous years, for the exact reason the OP has given us.
Unfortunately I think he`s correct (the OP) and gone are the days of any thoughts of a £40/50M transfer budget after tomorrow.
Thank you Platini.You cockwomble.

I think that any City fans who are expecting future transfer windows to be like those of the past are going to be very disappointed.

I reckon there has always been a business plan in place that couldn't sustain wild spending in the long term and our owners have every right to stick to their plan.

Some fans have got used to the big spending and are now kicking off - tough.

Totally agree. Also suspect it was no coincidence rumours of 'bombs dropping' were circulated around same time season ticket renewals were happening. That said I'm grateful for what we have and look forward to watching the guys this season.

Like I have said time and time again, just wait and see, none of us know what is going to happen in the next 24 hours, the time for all this analysis is tomorrow after the window closes (if the situation is the same)

I think the money is there for the right player but it has to be the right player and the terms have to be within the bounds of what other clubs pay.
I suspect had they wanted to come large fees would have been paid ofr Hazard DDR and posssibly Martinez but we do have an upper limit.

Good points, but we also had a plan to win the league this coming season and are now ahead of schedule. The squad last year was found wanting in Europe and the acquisitions made don't suggest we'll find our CL group a push over, so surely the FFP needs to be tailored to our other plans. Interesting season ahead.
