Swansea (a) Post Match Thread

Exactly. I remember playing for my school time and in defence. we was awful and won a handful of games in our 5 years there. Even at that shockingly poor level we was always told don't play the ball across your own box. If anyone is stealing a living in our team it is these two "defenders"

I think the pair of them are frighteningly bad - not sure how you coach intelligence into somebody ?

Well that has to be the worst game featuring City i've seen all season. 22 players strolling around as if they're already on a promenade. Even the Kid was half asleep. Still, job done.

Must of been your first game all season then

Out of curiosity does anyone know what Pep's teams' injury records are like?

Very poor at Bayern - hence his (misguided) war against the medical staff on a number of occasions.

I'd expect more injuries next season at City as players get used to his methods.

Does anybody think that City will ever do anything the easy way in future? Because up until the final whistle you always thought they had another goal in em. PHEW!!!!

Under Mancini we had one of the best injury records in the league (I recall someone posting here during the 2011/12 season the stats for our injuries against rival clubs). Under Pellegrini it's surely been one of the worst records. Of course there are some other factors (certain players getting older) but by and large I don't think any of it is coincidental.
Isn't it more true to say that we had an incredible injury record in that particular season. Mancini, for some reason best known to him, fucked off the club doctor in summer 2012 and then our injury record got considerably worse? Wonder what the doctor from the 11-12 season is doing now (as well as the defensive coach).

Yes, that's true. Odd decision.

I think it just goes to show that injuries aren't just 'bad luck'; with the right staff and the right methods (and perhaps also the right mentality) we could do something about them.

Totally agree. There will always be a large element of luck involved with some injuries but I would have thought that the number of soft muscle injuries in particular is something that can potentially be reduced with the right methods. TBH I don't think we have looked fit enough for the last couple of years (I am sure someone will post a stat to show how many last minute goals we score or something to "prove" me wrong) so it doesn't surprise me that we have had an increasingly horrific injury record.

Another goal in them? The one they scored, Joe had it covered until Fernando got his head in the way. They never looked likely to score at any point in the game.

More importantly would we have won it if Swansea had needed the win ? I doubt it, Swansea were happy to draw for the last 20 minutes.

Yeah I agree with that. There's a was distinctly end of an era kick about feel to yesterday. Some of our play was atrocious, and some of our players played with unprecedented levels of selfishness and greed.

I'm really really glad this season is over because along with it being the back of Pellegrini it'll be the back of some of the more unreliable cunts in the squad.

The club doctor used to be my GP before he got the post at City. He was against Hughes signing RSC , but was over-ruled as I understand it.

As far as I know he was still at the club when Mancini was there and got the bullet.

He is a specialist orthopeadic surgeon , but was working as a GP because he had young children.

Its become more and more obvious over the last few weeks that several players have seemingly switched off from Pellegrini and no doubt, he too had switched off.

Yesterday was ridiculously poor and had Swansea had anything to play for they would have beaten us imo as we just had nothing to offer because they didn't want to offer anything.

Glad it wasn't just me, even when creating stacks of chances first half, our play was sloppy and poor, and our star striker was only interested in himself (and wasn't alone).

Hopefully Pep will get rid of that attitude one way or another.

It's been a creeping bug bear of mine this season - and i guess you touched upon it in the thread which you started about our goals scored - that the defence gets most of the headlines, but quietly, our attacking play and players have been at best inconsistent and at worst simply poor and disinterested. Very very frustrating.

If Guardiola has watched this season with any detail (which you expect he has) then there will be a lot of casualties this summer in the playing squad because beyond quality we have a lot of players who lack the basic intelligence required to play for him.

Kun being the biggest culprit!

Its the reason many of us didn't want Kelechi playing with him in the pre match and why he is better up top on his own.

That said, he did have a partner yesterday but basically ignored him.

That's quite a bold statement to say one can improve and not the other. Even more so when the one you state can improve is 28 and should have ironed out these errors long before now and the one you claim cant improve is 25.
Tarka was the best defender in La Liga season before he joined us so he's got it in him. Mangala had "potential" when he joined us but I think we can safely say that he's not fulfilled that potential. Nor does he look even remotely close to doing so. The opposite in fact: he is a liability.

Poor Kelechi he was woeful yesterday but fuck me that boy is going to score an unprecedented amount of goals for us in the years to come.

Be interesting to see how Pep utilities him next season or whether he's sent out on loan.

I agree, and its ironic that a player nobody would have given any hope to playing for Pep, Fernando, may well have played his way into contention, one of a small number that has impressed in recent weeks.

Absolutely.
